R7 425 TP on tour

more shaft options... more play?

i've been playing a lot of golf the past 2 weeks with my friend Rick Karbowski who is a Champions Tour member & former Cleveland Golf Tour member, he's a Cleveland staff player. the past couple of days we have been playing with Gary Koch & Walter Hall, my friend Rick had been hitting the Comp/Hibore but after hitting my back up R7 425 TP he fell in love with it. he is actually putting my back up in his bag this week in Naples & bringing me back another when he gets back to Tampa to play in the Outback to replace the one I gave him. The interesting comment I've heard from him & a few Nationwide Tour guys out here is if they could get a different shaft in it they would play it ASAP. I'm sure he's gonna catch flack for using my R7 425 with the V2 this week & my question is if you can get a guy to put the driver in the bag after only 1 round why only allow the Fuji/TM proprietery shaft in it? I could understand the money they have invested in it but it would make more sense to get as many drivers as possible in play at every event don't you think? I was just wondering what everyones reaction is on this. if my man wins this week in Naples he owes me 10% of the check for using my driver to win it!

I have the same impressions of the 425 Tour .. The ball seems to come off

the face quicker and hotter than my other drivers , better launch and

distance for me..

When I find the right head/ shaft combo for my swing--it's

it's the best damn driver since the original 510 deep face! Period.

But I'm keeping it on the down low for as long as I can. :D

You're going to see more 425's with different shafts on the tour. It may be with the Rombax paint scheme or not.

So why wouldn't tour pros just pick whatever shaft they want and put it in there? Contractual reasons?

I ordered my R7TP with the Rombax Re*Ax 75 shaft. I can't wait until it comes in this week but of course we received 5 inches of snow yesterday and today. Good thing we have a covered range near by.

TM and Fuji partnered to develop the Rombax and was very strict about ensuring every 425 had the proprietary shaft in it. Unfortunately, a lot of pros preferred different shafts.

I'm testing a 10.5 with proto v2 76x and I still prefer the 75x rombax.

I have never had a driven ball go so far with "power-fade" spin on it as with the 425 tour....same V1x ball....don't understand why, but I like it.

Before the season, I played with Corey Pavin, he had the 425 with the rombax 65 in 2 drivers. He didn't say anything about having to play that shaft though. I saw Steve Pate a couple of days ago and he had the NV Proto, orange, in the 425 and was bombing it. He thought it was hotter-- it looked like it too.

If your on Tour then why not test out all the best shafts possible? Find out what is best and put it in your favorite head. It seems as if you guys are saying that TM wants their staff to play the fuji over everything else.I don't know about this one, but if your on Tour, then play the best setup for your game and don't play a shaft that your sponsor thinks is right. I could be wrong, but we'll see.

A good friend of mine is a shaft rep on the tour. He had about 40 or so shafts in play. The TM guys went around and pulled all the drivers that did not have fugis in them and told the players that TM has joined with fuji. The reason was they wanted the #1 driver to have the #1 shaft.

That's kind of a dumb move by Taylormade to not let the TOUR guys use the shafts that they want to. I think they're just asking for guys to start switching drivers just so they can use the shaft they want to. Just my opinion.

just talked to my Champions Tour buddy & looks like my V2 was yanked out & replaced with a ReAx Rombax shaft. doubt we'll see any R7 425's with any other shaft anytime soon, unless possibly it would be a different Fuji shaft. the only good thing is im getting a new R7 425 TP to replace the one I gave him!!!

just talked to my TM rep today after having to send him back a R7 425 TP due to something in the head & asked him what the deal was. he said that you wont see any other shaft in it anytime soon, & he went on to say that theres a possibility there will be different shafts in the 425

My taylor rep said he had no knowledge of what was happing. My buddy told me that alot of the guys that had there drivers taken are going back to there r7 quads as they are allowed to have any shaft in those that they want. I agree that this is a stuipid move on taylors part as I thank that they will loose alot of driver players that may not be under contract for a time frame but who are only playing there driver for the tee it up money. Those are the guys that have the largest effect on the weekly driver count.

What gives them the right to yank a shaft from a club that is owned by someone that they are not sponsoring? If he was a sponsored player or they had supplied the club it might be different but that was not the case in this situation.

IF you want the Tee Up money then you have to follow the Rules, if not then they can't do a thing about it.

What are you doing changing shafts on me again? :D I am ordering a 8.5* 905R with UST v2 75 next week. I hope to get my long game in better shape to give you a little more run for your money...this beating me by 20 strokes is getting old :)

ahahaha ;) I've just changed to the RE*AX, just no choices at this point. the V2 is a great shaft, I have a proto in my back up but we're hitting what's working, hell when it stops we'll go back to the old! hope little Mia is well & we'll be playing some golf this season again. too bad you can't make it down to Tampa, played with another member today (yogi). i got the flu which blows but it was good to get out of bed, the past 2 days I have done nothing for the 1st time since I've been home, just a lot of practicing & playing at the TPC here.
