pulling, hardstepping, and extending

Do any of the experienced clubmakers out there see any potential problems with the following plan:

I currently have a set of MacGregor M685s with the stock Rifle Flighted Lite 5.5 shafts that play +1/2" long. I would like to pull these shafts, since they launch the ball higher than I would like and feel a bit weak and light (actual flex is 5.3) then replace with some DGs. I am working on a limited budget and would like to accomplish the swap by purchasing an inexpensive set of DGS300 pulls, hardstep them, and then extend them as needed (as long as it is less than 3/4") so they play +1/2". Current setup plays D3-D4, any idea what the end result swingweight would be?

I might be able to pull off X100s, but am a bit leary about that much of a jump in stiffness.

If you buy some DG s300 pulls, you probably dont need to hardstep them coming from Rifle Lite 5.5. An s300 plays about a 5.75 on the Rifle scale, and they will launch significantly lower than the Rifle Lites you have in there. A hardstep s300 would play like a Rifle 6.0, which is much different from a Lite 5.5.

 

You should be able to post a WTB ad here and find a set of DGs300 easily, maybe even at +1/2 already.

I am looking to get up around a 6.0, hence the hardstepping. I think I will keep an eye out for an already extended set of DGS300s.

Current shafts are .370...would probably sell them for $40 after I get them pulled (which I wouldn't do until I have the DGSs to replace them)

I think it takes like 9-10g of shat weight to change the swingweight a point, so you might loose 1pt. You can always just add a 2g tip wate to get them back to the normal SW.
