kick point for new iron shafts

My swing speed is in the range of 80 to 85 with irons. Was looking at getting a set of Nippon shafts this year. I tend to like a heavy shaft as I am using DG R300 shafts now. Have tried the lighter shafts but always tend to go for the heaver models. I guess I could increase my swing speed by going with lighter shafts.

 

Should I get a low kick point with my swing speed?

My current ball flight is a bit high now. With Mizz MP-57 irons and DG R300 shafts

A low kick shaft will make the launch higher. You could try the Nippon Super Peening Blue if you wanted a weight similar to your current weight. According to Nippon, they are a high kick shaft, like the Dynamic Gold.

So you saying that the R300 shafts are a high kick point shaft? I was thinking that they were a low kick point. I don't think I would want any higher ball flight than I have now. So perhaps I should stay with a mid to high kick point?

Yes. Stay with a higher kick shaft. How far do you hit a 7 iron? Your iron SS is on the verge of a stiff, and a little stiffer shaft would knock the ball flight down a bit. You could also have your club maker hardstep your new shafts if you went with a regular, which would make them launch a little lower and play a touch stiffer.

DG's are about the lowest launching iron shafts out there. If you hit them high, I definitely wouldn't look at Nippon. If you want to go to a slightly lighter shaft with a high kickpoint, look at DGSL. You should pick up a few yards yet keep your trajectory the same.

The only other thing to ask is why you are hitting the MP57's high with R300 and your swing speed. You may not be loading the shaft enough causing you to add loft at impact by not having the clubhead lagging your hands. I've seen this before where people actually hit DG's hit because they aren't loading the shaft and flipping at impact adding loft.

 

A mid or low kickpoint shaft may actually allow you to deloft at impact and actually bring your ball flight down.

 

You just need to experiment and see what works best for you......it's not always cut and dry.

 

I have a much higher swing speed but don't load the shaft much so I need to play a low to mid kickpoint shaft. I actually play a regular flex in my driver even though my ss is pushing 110. I've just got an extremely slow tempo.
