What golf ball should i try??

Hi Guys,

This is one of my first ever posts (if not my first) on this site, as I tend just to read others comments, but I was looking for some advice.

For the last two / three seasons I’ve been using the Pro V1x and have never looked elsewhere as I’ve had been perfectly happy. Last season however I got a new set of sticks and found I was generating a ridiculous amount of spin with the mid to short irons. The flight is fine, this distance was fine but the spin at times was causing me problems.

We had a particularly wet summer last year and possibly it was down to playing wet greens but even so I’m planning to have a look around at my options.

My requirements are;

Strong flight in windy conditions

Softish feel around the green

Low spinning

My handicap is 1 (UK) and my driver speed is about 105 and ball speed is about 155.

Any suggestions?

Callaway Tour i

I would say the Callaway Tour ix but it's not very soft around the greens. It is excellent off the driver, VERY low spin for a urethane ball, and great in the wind though so it may be worth a sleeve to see if you like the feel.

I'm either using the Brigestone 330, Callaway Tour ix, or Srixon Z Star X this year FWIW.

Have you seen the February 08 Golf Mag article about balls? Reading that might help. They talk about spin for a wide variety of models. Accoring to them the V1x is spins the most of the two models, you might try the v1.

Other than trying a few sleeves here and there, you might try a ball fitting.

I'll agree with 307golf with the recommendation of the Callaway Tour i, however, I would also suggest trying the TaylorMade TP Red LDP, it's great for windy conditions and it doesn't feel too bad around the greens. Pick up a few sleeves and experiment, all we can do is make suggestions.

I don't know anything about the Taylormade balls. Haven't even seen them anywhere in this part of the country (not that it means much).

Is the Bridgestone e7+ a urethane covered ball?

I've been VERY pleased with the latest version of the Bridgestone B330-S and it's currently my ball of choice. I will give the new Srixon Z Star and Z Star X a try, but they'll have to be something special to kick the B330-S out of my bag.

That's good to hear. I'm not sure I like the feel as much as the old ones and will be trying the B330 and the Srixons. If I like one of those ones, I'll have 3 dozen 2009 B330-S to sell. :(

The only Taylormade ball Ive ever played was the Noodle and I wasnt impressed with it. I found it to be very clicky and just felt dead coming off of the clubface.
