Anyone demo/play KZG Tour Evolution?

I've always been fond of KZG equipment, as they were the first custom-built forged iron set I played (original Cavity Back). Their equipment has been in and out of my bag over the past 8 years. The best set of blades I've owned and played were the ZO Blades.

I was able to see the new Tour Evolution up close today, but was unable to hit them. They are stunning IMHO, because they are very compact for a CB, clean satin finish, clean lines. However, they look much harder to hit than comparably sized blades. Overall profile is surprisingly smaller than the ZO Blade. I noticed that the lofts are stronger, and heard the COG to be higher up the face (reads low ballflight). The features appear to be an odd combination for a CB, regardless of size.

Can anyone comment on the playability, forgiveness, and overall performance of the Tour Evolution?

Thanks.

Brian

If you played the ZO Blades you would love the Tour Evo's. They look incredible and play even better but they are for the better player, 5 handicap down.

Here is some info off our website:

They are designed specifically for the touring professional and better player...up to a 7 handicap. We modified our number 1 selling forged iron set, the Evolution, by making the head smaller and minimizing the progressive offset and thinning the sole for more workability. Each iron head, from cavity back through blade, is 10% different from the adjoining iron to make a seamless progression for seamless play. The result is a competitive player's dream set of irons.

-Radius and camber on sole with higher CG is ideal for the better player to reduce spin

-Modern lofts, player's profile

-Ideal for competitive players and touring pros (minimal offset)

Good players absolutely love them and these are moving out the door fast. Very workable. Higher handicap I would say stay away.

Just trying to help as I rep for them.

I demoed a tour evo five iron extensively last year, 5 different shafts, weaker lofts and lighter swing weights. I'm a 4 marker (2.7 14mths ago) with a mid to low ball flight and a fair ball striker but the combination of strong lofts and high COG was too much club for my swing. If I hit them at the range for long enough I would start to hit them thin because subconsciously I'd stop transferring my weight and scoop the ball to get more height.

I found them to be very unforgiving. The cobra irons I was using at the time have the same size head and offset and were a dream to hit by comparison. To me the ZO blades (fantastic club btw) are much more forgiving. They feel ok but the feedback is lousy, if I missed the sweet spot I had no idea where the ball had struck the club face.

Playability/performance was not good either but then again most of the time I was hard pressed just to hit my stock shot. I could move the ball left and right but not with a lot of control and ball flight was one dimensional (ie low). Distance was down too, 1-1.5 clubs shorter than my cobra tour IIs. On the plus side the tour evo did feel very stable thru the turf.

I wanted to like the tour evo, I love the way they morph from a cavity to a blade, that's why I persisted with them for so long. Great looking clubs and they seem to be a high quality product but they weren't for me. It would be interesting to hear from someone with a high ball flight who has tried these clubs though.

Which would you say is more demanding, the ZO Blade or Tour Evo? I ask because I've played the best golf over time with the ZO Blade. The ZO profile looks bigger when I set both clubs side by side.

You are correct, the Tour Evo is a smaller head. Most of the Pro's use and absolutely love the ZO Blades. I can't say which is more demanding because it depends on the player.

That's why we make sure you are custom fit so you get the best club for your swing and ability. I can say the Tour Evo's are flying out the door so some people they fit perfectly for. Sorry for the vague answer but the fitting will tell all.

It's kinda like when everyone is asking what is the best longest straightest driver?

The correct answer is there isn't one. The best driver is the one that fit's you best!
