Cheap/cost-effective urethane coated ball?

So, Dave Pelz tells me my shots to the green will cluster better with urethane-coated balls (via Golf Magazine anyway). It's hard to figure out what I should be looking for. Basically, I want the cheapest urethane coated balls possible. Currently I'm working through a batch of Intech balls I got from Amazon for cheap last year, but eventually I guess I'll think about something else. I don't care much about the long game -- I'd rather make sure I have proper spin around the green.

 

Recommendations? How do I figure out what's surlyn and what's urethane?

I think Bridgestone e5+ has a urethane cover on it. I've played them before, and I liked them. I'm just messing around with different balls right now since I ran out of the e5+. They really helped me to get the ball in the air, and they stuck to the green with my long irons as well.

Your best bet would be to go to dept stores & look for discontinued tour balls . The Wal Mart down the road has Precept U Tri tour balls for 20 clams . The cover of the ball will be listed on the box .

3 doz Top Flite Strata TL Tour, $40 shipped

 

new urethane balls don't really get much cheaper than that. the TL Tour is an older discontinued model, but it's still a good ball.

U-Tri Tour is a great suggestion. It's the predecessor to the B330 and plays really well around the greens. E5/E5+ would also be a good place to start. Other than those, all of the Tour-level balls in the $40-$50 price range are urethane. Last year's (or older) models can be had for cheaper. Look around for the Srixon Z-URS. They can be had (Golf Galaxy?) for $20/dozen right now as they are on clearance. Very nice ball.

 

I just picked up 5 dozen TaylorMade TP Blacks for $20/doz at.... ....wait for it.... ....Costco. Go figure.

Really?? TP Blacks at Costco? I heard they were selling Burner TPs for that same price.... If they're 20 per dozen I'll go out and maybe buy some......

 

That said... The best deals I've seen on Urethane covered balls is at the ~$20/dozen mark.

I've been buying up all the U-Tri Tours I can find, have about 6 dozen in my garage. Don't tighten the market! :)
