Most durable tour or tour-like ball

I just got a set of Ping S58 irons and they are ripping the cover off of my Pro-V1's. I love the ball but it doesnt last me 5 holes anymore, much less an entire round. I need a ball that is soft and will allow me to spin it but with a durable cover. Any suggestions? I have read alot of good things about the TM Burner TP. It is so hard to buy a TM ball after being a "Titleist man" for as long as I can remember.

I to was in the same situation that you were. I love the feel of the Pro V1 and the spin that i get but hated going through one or two everytime I play. I tried the Srixon Z-Star which is much more duable and feels similar. the cover is more durable and the spin is just slightly less. I don't seem to be able to suck the ball back like the Pro V1 but it does hop and stop. The ball that I have really fallen in love with the is the new Nike One Tour. It seems to have the same playability as the Pro V1 and the cover does not instantly shred when hit with my Vokeys. I have not played the 09 Pro V1, though I do have a dozen in my bag and a dozen Nike One Tours. I'll be playing them side by side but won't really be able to determine a winner until the greens dry out and firm up. For me greenside spin and feel is most important. I need to be able to attack pins and what the grenside spin when I need it. The feel of both these balls off the putter is smooth and not clicky. From what I can tell the Srixon Z-Star (I played the non-X version) is the longer of the three balls I have spoke about. They all have stopping power while the Nike One Tour and Titleist Pro V1 will put into reverse. I love looking for new balls and to find myself coming back to the Pro V1 time and time again. I think that I will play the Nike for a while though as it seems to have the best combination of touch, feel and spin.

I have played the Pro V1x pretty much since they came out and always had problems with the covers, but just dealt with it because I liked the ball so much. Recently I've been playing the Srixon Z-Star X and feel that it is a much better ball. I've been a Titleist guy since the Balata days and have always played a Titleist, but Srixon is really onto something with their new balls. For me they are longer, with about equal feel, and most of all the covers are very good. I played an entire round with one ball earlier this week and it only had one small scuff that was barely noticeable. I'm have a high swing speed (around 118) and have always had problems with coverrs, but these Srixon balls have been great so far. I played the Bridgestone balls for a couple of months too and they were great as well.

I know this is not what you want but I have to go with NONE.. I seem to shred every f in ball.. It's just the price we pay for the control, but if I had to pick the best I would go with the callaway i series. The bridgestone balls are the hardest clicky feeling ball on the market in my opinion.. My ball of choice is the pro v1

I would love to know what people are doing do play a ball for 18 holes and say that its in good shape honestly.. Everyone I know has this problem yet I hear people play 18 with out a mark just amazes me.. What do you guys do hit everything fat so the grooves never touch the ball??? I can take a baby 7 iron and scuff the crap out of a tour ball.. I dont care if you play the hardest ball on the market its going look peaced after 18 period.

I don't hit many fat shots, my miss is usually thin. I usually have the same problems that you describe, but the round I played with the Srixon was great and I had no problems with the ball other than one small scuff as I mentioned. That was the first round I've played with these balls though so time will tell. I was one over from the tips so I was definitely hitting a lot of grooves. This is the first time I've ever played a ball an entire round that was in such good shape when I finished. It could be a multitude of things that cause the balls to scuff up, one being the way you attack the golf ball. Everyone is different so their swings will impart different effects on the ball. Even the clubs you play will have an impact, my old irons and wedges(Cleveland TA2 and Vokeys) seemed to eat up balls a lot worse than the irons I'm currently playing.

I think the TM TP Red holds up pretty darn well, but its properties certainly aren't for everyone.

The Srixon Z-Star is very durable but it will wear. I played 18 holes with one ball today. I wanted to change it out after about 13 holes but kept it in play to see what it really looked like. It was rather nasty. What I find is that the wedges seem to rub off the cover unlike the Pro V1's in which you get groove slices. So yeah I can play the Srixon longer but in the end I still only get a few more holes out of it.

Just a few random thoughts:

1) I find the new Pro V1x to be far more durable than the old one. One full Vokey SM sand wedge or LW, however, and it is scuffed

2) The TM Red definitely holds up better than the Prov V1's

3) Maybe it is just me, but I do not believe the B 330 or 330S compare to the real tour balls like the Pro V1 and the TM. Just too firm on short game shots and putts. Just MHO

4) I am dying to play the Z-star. A couple friends who are scratch or better and were devout P V1 players have switched and say it is not even comparable in terms of durability. Most positive buzz I have heard about a new ball in a long time.

Griffew: What did you come up with? I'd like to hear what you tried and what you liked, didn't like when you get around to it.

I havent had a chance to try any out yet. I did talk to the pro out at the course I play and he suggested the Bridgestone 330 RX for me since I dont swing 100 mph. He said that they are flying off the shelves because it fits more amateurs swings and will give me more spin. I think I am going to get a sleeve of 330 RX's and a sleeve of the Z-Stars and see what happens. I will post the results.

Get your Srixon! The new Z-Star and Z-Star X are tops in durability and performance for me. I hit the new V1 X and it scuffed up bad after one wedge shot. Z-Star takes a beating well.

i really like the nike one tour ball... durable and still feels awesome...

+1, The Nike One Tour is my new ball. I am going to play the dozen 09 Pro V1's till they are gone but I will be hitting the Nike One Tour this year. I like the durability of the Srixon Z-Star but the added feel and spin from the One Tour can't be beat. Great job from Nike.
