Is it just me or is top-flite stepping up there game

Considering where they used to be with topflite xl and hot xl I would have to say top-flite has really stepped up their game recently, I got a dozen d2 straight for xmas, and when I saw them I was like great... topflites. But i pulled them out as a spring ball to use while I'm getting my swing in order and I actually really like it.

 

Your not going to confuse it for a pro-v but it plays quite good. I've also heard good things about the gamer.

They seem to be appealing to a younger audience given the ball names. You really must try the Gamer if you like a ProV1 but hate the price. I'm not saying they are the same ball, but I will say it's not your daddy's TopFlite either.

I heard that gd recently rated the gamer better than the titleist is this true? Not that I take any GD testing seriously it is kind of funny though if its true

From memory, it was something like GD said that the Gamer was a better ball for the money than PROV1 and that it was a very good ball period.

 

Of course, the MSRP for the PROV1 is more than twice that of the Gamer.

Even then I wouldn't say the ball is a good deal for the money. I tried them and they were really hacked up after being played for a single hole - even a 7-iron would shred them. I'm not one of those guys that shreds a prov1 easily and can play one pretty much until I lose it so any savings are gone due to durability issues. Now if I was losing 3-4 balls a round then perhaps I'd consider them a good alternative.

They rated these balls in different categories, so they weren't' actually even.

 

To the thread... The top-flite balls got better when Callaway bought them. The gamer is a great ball in that $22.00 price range... as good as any.

 

When they started getting Callaway technology making them, the quality of the balls certainly came up.

actually, Callaway bought Top Flite for their golf ball patents and manufacturing technology. Callaway's current ball offerings owe a lot to the technology they gained from Top Flite. more specifically, the Tour i/ix (and HX Tour and HX 56 Tour) would not have been developed without the technology Top Flite developed for the Ben Hogan Tour Deep. Top Flite made very high quality balls, but they were branded Strata and Ben Hogan.

Yep, i'm down to my last dozen Top-Flite Strata TL-Tour. Man, what a good ball. I think it was just too good and they had to stop making it because it was infringing on their "Premium" balls. Just as long as anything else out there (for me), and just a touch less spin than a ProV1. I had been playing the Nike One Plat and the Top-Flite was at least one club longer, just a little less spin. I'm going to miss those.

 

I auditioned the B330 and the Srixon Z-URC at the end of last year, and decided the srixon was the replacement. Wouldn't you know it, they stopped making them and the price comes down to less than $20 a dozen. So I bought enough to last the year.
