TW's Driving Accuracy

Well, I'm just throwing this idea out there but, Tigers driving accuracy this week is 71.4 % and he is somewhat struggling. Where as at Doral he only hit something like 50% of fairways and won. I know this week he's been struggling with the putter, and he's hit a ton of GIR. So here's the question...does Tiger play better from the rough?

PS- Don't burn me on this topic...I'm just throwing the question out there.

He plays well from any lie, but obviously he would prefer fairway vs rough in almost all situations.

 

Putting is just not there this week, otherwise -4 could easily be -12, but some weeks you just don't have it on the greens. He will probably be quite happy with 72% fairways at TPC next week.

This may be a bit of a wide generalization, but personally I feel that on the PGA Tour Level, all of these guys can hit the ball almost equally the same. I mean, yeah some are longer, some are straighter, but the difference maker week-in-week-out is PUTTING. Watch anyone who wins. J.B Holmes, Tiger, Retief, Vijay, etc. and notice where they are ranked putting for the week. What I am saying is Tiger can drive the ball almost anywhere and recover to get the ball on the green. From here is where he scores. Tiger said it yesterday, I am hittiing my irons great, just can't make anything. Even Johnny Miller said the other week that Tiger is the best putter he had ever seen. PUTTING=WINS!! Look how well Ogilvy is starting this year. Is he all of a sudden a better ball-striker than he was 1-2 years ago? Possibly, but look at how much better he is in his putting stats. Now lets take Sergio. Great driver and GIR, but look where he went from putting.

2001-2002 he was around 35-25th. Was a contender in alot of the majors. Now he ranks like 175. Ouch!!!

Did you also know that this year at the Bay Hill they let the rough grow to 4 inches and its real thick. You are really penalized for not keeping it in the farway. Tiger driving distance is down also down when hes in the fairway.

If you told me on Wednesday that Tiger would have a 71-72 fairway %, I would have bet the "pot" on him winning...

Did you look at his putting stats. Tiger could not beg, borrow, steal, rent to own or get a putt on consignment. :drinks: :crazy:

 

Overall he was not sharp with his irons and it lead to long putts which he just couldn't sink consistently.

I totoally agree. What a fickle game this is. The one part of Tiger's game that he is strongest IMO (putting) completely let him down, and oddly it was his driving that was great this week, and he only managed to be -4 under. But hey, that's what makes this game so great, because you can never master it no matter who you are.
