i am a huge fan of ernie els, but I cant help but see that he is not what he used to be.I understand he had a serious injury, but he still looks like he is capable of swinging the club like he used to. Your thoughts?

The thing I noticed about Ernie this week was his inconsistency, Go low one day and then come back to par, go low then come back to par. Hes struggling right now thats for sure.

But I don't think there are too many of us who wouldn't trade our game with Ernies game any day of the week.

I'm not really sure about it. After he came back from the rehab period, he placed like 3rd in the first event he played in, and won the one directly after (both on Euro tour I think). I think all of the ability is still there, although I believe that anything he does at all, walking up steps in his house, swimming, etc. that could reaggrevate that knee to the slightest discomfort could render his chances of winning.

When they interviewed Ernie at Doral his stated he still has discomfort in his knee and it can affect him late in rounds. It may take him another year before he's really 100% with little if any discomfort. If you listen to athletes who've had knee injuries the hardest part is building confidence back in the injured knee and being able to "Cut Loose" 100% in terms of using the knee without any doubts or fears.

I love Ernie's swing and his easygoing personality. I'm pulling for him to play some great golf.

Didn't seem to bother Tiger the same way and he has had two knee surgeries. Could be different musculature types also. Ernie always seems kind of big and squisy and Tiger always seems very toned. That was pretty obvious in Ernie's case when they showed his leg/knee during the rehap pictures.

You guys have no clue what you're talking about. Ernie had a torn ACL, the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, the ligament(among others) that connects the femur to the tibia. Being a doctor, I was very suprised to see him coming back to competitive golf so soon after an injury like this. This is sometimes a career ender. Tiger's knee surgery was nowhere near as serious. He had surgery to remove cartilage and small bone particles and fluid caused by years of abuse on that left knee. All I am saying, is, give the guy a break. Most of us would still be in a brace and limping.
