One stroke penalty for throwing clubs

Watching Tiger yesterday, my Mom of all people suggested this and I thought it was very interesting. With all the recent talk about Tiger, AK, etc. throwing clubs, how would you feel if this became a rule?

RIf the tour feels it is a bad thing they can institute a fine like they do for swearing, but it is not something that belongs in the rules of golf.

Two thumbs up for swearing and club throwing. I like it. I don't want to watch robots out there. In my own game I try to keep it under control, If I let it get out of hand it only hurts my game. I think it also hurts a pro's game. No need for a penalty they are punishing themselves by not controling their emotion. Swearing/club throwing is a part of the game. Always has, always will be.

I wasn't singling anyone out, I was just asking a hypothetical question. Human emotion can't be compared to be acting childish and trashy, if I get charged double for something at the grocery store I'm not throwing my wallet on the ground and making a scene, which is exactly what these guys are doing. I understand they are under pressure, but it's kind of a joke now I think. I'm sure you've heard of Jack's story and how he got mad and tossed his club in a junior tournament and afterwards his Dad told him if he ever did that again he would never play golf again. Golf is a sport based on the principles of class and honor to the game. Mr. Palmer, Player, and Nicklaus would not approve of this today, and I actually do agree with my Mom here, because you are an athlete does not give you the right to act like a child. That's just my opinion though, and nothing more.

Didn't say you singled anyone out was just throwing out my opinion. You do know that Palmer used to chain smoke and drink brandy like it was going out of style. So point being no one is perfect.But if Im on my way to missing a cut for a major and possibly a million dollar paycheck. I would imagine I would be upset and saying not so nice things, and I wouldnt care who approved.

I like to see the raw emotions of a player, I don't want to tune into a golf tournament and see 156 Retief Goosens...don't get me wrong, Retief is a good player but he's got the charisma of a corpse

I played in a member guest tournament at Willow Creek Country Club located in SLC, Ut a few years back. After hitting a really bad iron shot I tossed my club in disgust back at my bag about 20' away.

 

I was DQ'd. I haven't thrown a club since.

 

Should it be allowed in the game? No, it isn't part of the game. It is supposed to be a gentlemans game and should be played accordingly.

 

In almost every game I can think of if you toss something you are either tossed or penalized. Time for the PGA to stop the Pro from acting liking a child.

i find the stoicism of a retief goosen much more appealing than the "raw" emotion of some pga tour players.

on one of my junior tours, it is a 2-stroke penalty, and on one of my other jr. tour's it's a dq for throwing clubs.

I dropped a club after my follow through in a recent tournament with the "rules official" watching. Luckily I got away with a "stern warning" lol, apparently it is a stroke penalty in USGA events or something.
