Need some feedback
I just need feedback on the Srixon I-506 irons. How forgiving, playability, trajectory, etc. Also i need to know how much the set would cost me. My local golf store here is charging me 699.00 plus 15% off with any shaft that i wanted and custom fit. Is there other store that is cheaper and would custom fit for me? Thanks

First - check this thread i-506 Thread. Lots of info there.

To answer your questions from my perspective, this club has got me really excited. They are to me as much if not more forgiving than any players cavity back I have tried, give me a slightly higher launch and trajectory than what I was playing previously (which should have been more of a game improvement club). They look great at set-up, but have a little funkiness to them from the back. I have played Mizuno cavity backs and appreciated that look for 5+ years, but I actually like the look of these more than the MP-60s, which are there direct competitor in that line.

If by playability you mean "can they be worked" my answer is yes. I wouldn't be able to compare them to a blade that way, but I have been able to work them as much as I need to: a little higher, a little lower, a little left or a little right. they feel smooth and soft on good hits, but will let you know what happened on bad ones. But not in a punishing way. I'm in straight S300, coming from R300 Sensicore. I prefer the feel of S300 without sensicore, personally.

The price you quote seems fair to me. They come with a great array of shaft choices at no upcharge, and custom-fitted is good. You might save a hundred bucks going eBay like I did, but now I'll be getting the lies bent and having other fitting issues dealt with, which will be an add-on for final cost. $600 or so fit seems good. I went the cheap route in case I wanted to flip 'em, but if your mind's set on them go through your local guy.

The custom shaft thing is huge. I happen to like S300, but if you're into Rifle or Nippon, you can go that way (which would cost you an arm and a leg to reshaft or go custom through someone else)

*edit* nevermind, Mugnut came to the rescue, LOL!

I've only seen a few reviews for Srixon irons, but so far it seems that all of them have been overwhelmingly positive. If no one chimes in here, try scrolling down to the iron review section... I'm not sure if anyone has requested a review or not for that specific head, but you could also request a review, too :D

15% off with your choice of shafts? Not bad, my friend, not bad :stop:

I got mine about 3 weeks ago off ebay brand new in plastic for $380. Mine have DNS300. They are so much cheaper on ebay. Most of the time the bidding starts at like $499 and they have Project X's or TTDN. Check ebay. Greatest site to get golf clubs. They are great clubs. I really like the feel of them. They look pretty much like blades but with a little thicker topline and they are cavities. The faces don't mark easy. They are very durable clubs but they are forged.

I just picked up a lefty set for a song. I immediately reshafted with DG Black Gold and played them yesterday. High but flat launch and about 1/2 club longer than my 735's (lofts are a touch stronger).

Clicky feel - alot like Hogan FTX's but more stable thru the turf/ball. you can feel the resistance to twisting vs smaller blades (heel to toe). High and low misses are forgiven but I came up short left on a shot out towards the toe with a 9 iron.

Soles are not a clunky as they appear. The back pad portion of the sole doesn't come into play as the measured bounce drops off there. I'm going to give these more play this weekend and give them a shot at the title. They deserve that much at least :stop:

I just ordered mine!!! I can't wait!

I went with the PX 5.5. I was going to get NP 1150 but the PX had no upcharge so I went with them. I am not a huge fan of standard Rifle so hopefully I'll like the PX.

I'm already thinking of the best wedges to complement my new set of irons that haven't even been built yet!!!

I'm such a ho.

I've only demoed these into the net, so I can't say too much about playability. But I can say that IMO they beat the bridgestone combos (another demoed). The I-506 felt much better, and didn't seem to destroy you on a less that perfect hit.

I agree; I haven't given up on my J33 Combos yet, they may go into my back-up bag or they may go back to Buy and Sell here. My take on the the comparison is that the J33 Combos may look just a hair better at set-up to my eye but defiitely seem a little harder to hit for me particularly in the short irons. Guess i'm just not good enough . . .

but I could see myself really liking the J33's as a change/when my swing is in a real groove.

the i-506 is easier for to hit on the whole and basically looks just as good, and I like the ballflight they deliver. Seem high yet penetrating for me, which I could use.

I look forward to a review with the PX.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got my i-506s! They do look great. I hit them last night on the range, and came away frustrated only because my swing was off, I just wasn't striking anything well, including my woods, so I know it wasn't the irons.

But, because I wasn't hitting the ball well, it was a good way to test the clubs forgivness! The good news is that I found them as forgiving as my Ping i3 OS, which was nice because they are a slightly smaller head, with much less offset.

My big concern is still the PX 5.5 shafts. They will require getting used to because I had them built at .75 over. I was fitted to be inbetween .5 and .75, so I figured I can always cut them if they end up being too long. So the current length is equal to on more club in my old set.

I'll post more info once I've hit them for a couple weeks and at least a couple rounds.
