Wedge shafts

Advice needed

First timer------------------

66 yrs old------just had a back operation a week ago---10 hcp-----recovering nicely-----Dr. suspects I perhaps lose some distance with all clubs---recovering, I am putting together a plan on how to improve my short game when I am able to play again----------I have been decent with my wedges, but know I could improve-------in the past I have tried many different brands--------never did care for the feel for any other than an old set I took to a builder, had him install 2 old graman graphites he had laying around----one a CF-310 in a 52--------the other a CF-3100 in a 56---flexes are not close enuf for my "feel"-------I am now pondering having built a pair of Matlby M series forged wedges 50 & 56 degree------------I am at a loss as to HOW to choose shaft? In gathering info I came up with following shafts------Aidila Gamer-----UST competition 75-----UST RV2 75 gold-----Aidila Value series & lastly Rifle spinner----I am a total "feel" player with my short irons--previous steel shafts, bar none, feel like I am hitting a brick with a pipe----the reviews I have read, there are more guys that are happy with the Aidila Value than the others----------Would any of you have any advice?

depend on whether on not you want graphite?

i would suggest spending whatever it takes and particularly if you can get fitted.

Maltby wedges are excellent very old style shape but are very good, the CER wedges are quite good to.

Depending on you budget you might also look at scratch wedges they are supposed to be excellent and have a plethorah of options available with many custom shafts options

I had a major back operation about 8 years ago and went to graphite to help with my back, i do still use steel in my irons but when the back is playing up i go straight back to graphite plus the extra distance helps!

If you want to go with graphite I would look to something in an A flex, or you might want to look to Nippon shats I know they come in 75-80 gram weights, in addition they help with trajectory.

I am not a fan of graphite shafts in the irons. For my wedges I really like the rifle spinner wedge shaft.
