Orlimar Trimetal Fairway Woods

Shaft Question

Go ahead & laugh, but I really hit the Orlimar Trimetals well back when they first came out. I am currently looking for a new fairway wood / hybrid set-up & came across a guy I know who has 15*, 18*, 21* & 27* & is selling all of them for a steal. All of them come with the stock shafts in regular flex. I play Stiff flex in my irons & driver shaft & was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on what I could reshaft these with? I am not opposed to steel, just not sure how they would work out in these woods.

If you need any swing info, let me know. I currently game a Tour Burner 9* driver with the stock stiff Re-Ax shaft (I hit it really well, better than the stiff ProLaunch Red that was in my L4X) & TM R7 irons with stiff stock shafts.

I just ordered a 13* off ebay two days ago. These clubs are great and I think the faces are hot. Nobody should laugh at these clubs. I would also like to know if there is a comparable club out there.

Glad to see another Orlimar fan. I gamed an Orlimar HipSteel 14° 3w, 18° 5w, & a TriMetal 7w. I traded in my 5w & 7w, when I got my first hybrids (Mizuno CLK Fli-Hi 17°, 20°, 23°, 26°). I don't carry the 23°, since I'll be exceeding the 14 club rule. I hardly hit my 17° hybrid and I miss my Orlimar HipSteel 18° 3w, so I bought it back. I also used to game a 10.5° HipTi 350cc Driver, but the shaft broke by the head and so friend gave me his old Nike 9° Titanium 450cc driver, but later upgraded to a TaylorMade 10.5° R9.

So I went ahead & bought the four clubs. I was thinking I would put a graphite shaft into the 15* (open to suggestions) & steel shafts in the other 3 since they will be taking the place of hybrids / irons. What do you guys think of this set-up & i'm open to any suggestions? Do you think the same steel shafts that are in my TM R7's would work in these woods?

Ok, I didn't mean to divert from your original post. The TriMetal heads are rather lite, so unless you find steel shafts as lite or close to graphite shafts, it may not feel right swinging them. Well, unless you want to consider adding lead weights to the head. I play stiff shafts as well, and for me, the stock Orlimar (my HipSteel had Fujikura) or EI-70 shafts were fine. But since those were regular shafts, you may want to look for something comparable to the Orlimar stock stiff shafts.

Thanks for the help...Anyone have any idea what shafts would be comparable to the Orlimar stock stiff shafts?

I've found that the Orlimar is a very light clubhead as well. Has anyone put any "rat glue" or "hot melt" into the head to increase the swingweight without any adverse side effects?

I suspect an ultralight shaft would work well with the Orlimar to increase the swingweight of these clubs. They are probably in the C range for everyone that uses the stock shaft. I still use the stock TrueTemper shaft.

I am leaning toward shafting them with Dynamic Gold X300 Wood / Hybrid Shafts. Are these too heavy? Any opinions or suggestions welcome.

The best results I've had with those heads have involved fairly heavy graphite. The current model which offers the most bang for the buck IMO is the Matrix Studio Series 84 or 94. Nothing wrong with DG, of course, and it's cheaper...

I think the EI-70 is a perfect shaft for those, I used to have a 13, 18 set up with both and they were the t****!!!!

I would recommend the EI70, V2 fairway, or an old Pro Lite should match up VERY well with those heads.

Heck my buddy has litterally 12 or 13 of them because he loves them so much that every time he comes across them they're always like 10 bucks so he just buys them

And anyone that "laughs at you" for liking these, either sucks at golf or is the fool who "buys a better game" every year, or both

I had an Orlimar Trimetal for 7 or 8 years, and if i hadn´t put a dent in the face a couple of months ago I would still be gaming it. I thought it worked great with a Grafalloy ProLite shaft in it.

laugh? i thought these were the defacto standard in woods when they came out. i wasn't playing when they came out but always hear about them.
