Tiburon Gold

Got to play the Gold Course at Tiburon this past Sunday and it was a beautiful course in great shape...with the exception of the greens. They had been aerified about two weeks earlier and had healed for the most part...but they were ridiculously fast on most holes. The the four or five that weren't were slow! It made for a very inconsistent round on the greens...one hole I had an 8 foot birdie putt that I took the club back about a foot, and it roled almost 6 feet by the hole. That's just assinine. The staff there told me it's a very tough golf coure...I thought just the opposite - it's a very easy golf course! I tore it up from tee to green, the only defense it has is the speed of the greens. I played from the back tee's (6500 yards) and hit 3 wood on almost all par 4's and one par 5. Distance is not a factor on that course, I shot 79 but could have shot close to even par if the greens were more reasonable. However; one thing that needs to change above all else is the staff at that golf club...they need a major personality transplant. Stuckup, snooty, condesending, whatever you want to call it - they got it. The Ritz Carlton is very aware of it and told me they get numerous complaints. They are part owners of the facility and are working to get control of the club so they can make all the golf course staff Ritz Carlton employees. That might be fun to watch!

I have played both of the courses at Tiburon, as my mom lives in Naples so i visit a couple of times a year. I love both of the courses. I actually prefer playing at Old Corkscrew but I do love playing at Tiburon, especially since I get a very good rate. The greens have always been fantastic when I played there and I actually played there last year right after Greg Normans golf tournament and the course was ridiculous.

As far as the staff is concerned I could not disagree any more with you on the staff. I was there a month ago and it was really slow and I chatted with two women working in the pro shop and they were awesome. The starter was extremely nice and we chatted for about ten minutes about the course and the other courses I get a chance to play while visiting in Naples. Then there were staff members driving around making sure everything was going well with everyone on the course. I have always been impressed by the staff and service there.

I played it 2 weeks ago.

I was pleasantly surprised. It was in great shape, and the greens were pretty good. Lots of grain...

The piece of land is pretty nice and the landscaping is impeccible.

I did notice that posted distances from the tees were much longer than the course actually played. GPS confirmed this. A little bit of resort trickery.
