First attempt at paintfilling

it's a lot more work than I thought.

Today I finally finished paintfilling my Titleist ZM's. I don't know what inspired me to try, but I decided to replace the standard black paint in the numbers in the soles with a bright red. I'm reasonably pleased with the results (and lot's of thanks to chefmiz for the guidance and support!), and I know my wife is glad that I'm done with this project!

Thanks for the feedback guys! The biggest hassle was removing the old paint; I didn't want to strip the paint out of the backside of the irons, so I couldn't just soak the entire head in acetone. I wound up putting several coats of enamel thinner on top of the numbers and then scrapping out the old paint with a sharp pocket knife. (I probably got lucky that I didn't stab myself with that part of the process!) After that, it was just a matter of patiently applying a few coats of new enamel paint into the engraving with a toothpick and finally applying two layers of top coat enamel gloss. The sad thing now is that the clean paint really shows the wear on the sole of these irons.

If removign the old paint was such a big hassle, why didn´t you just leave the old paint and put some coats of the new one on top of it?

I decided to remove the original paint because a few of the clubs had some chips of paint missing and thought that it would be most effective if I could get the thickest layer of new paint in the engraving as possible. I doubt that leaving the original black paint there would have "darkened" the new red paint much, if any, but I just decided that I'd probably get the best results by removing the original paint and replacing it entirely. Had I just soaked the clubs in acetone and not worried about the original paint on the back of the clubs, it wouldn't have been nearly as tedious, but then I would have had a lot more very fine paintwork to deal with.

Lovely job, i've done some paint filling on the woods i stripped and a Honma 10 iron i got for 50p, amazing the difference fresh paint makes to a club. thinking about doing my MacGregor Tourneys that I got for free but would this be sacrelidge? ( i dont think they had paint originally).
