Great driver, slightly different in sound/feel than the R510DF which is the proto/tour issue version.

Of these two drivers, the R510TP and the R510DF Tour, which is the hotter of the two? (cool) :golfer:

Man, I hear that Ozik is a damn good shaft, I can't afford one right now but maybe later someone will have a pullout for $650 or $700 and then I'll be all over it. :golfer:

The r510 TP is without doubt one of the best drivers ever from any company. I am not really a taylor made fan, but this driver is amazing. I actually never dreamed that any other driver could make it into my bag, but I now have the Ping G2 with the same speeder 757 shaft and it is even better!

Ok, so you are going to be hard pressed to find a driver that feels as soft as the 510 TP at impact (feels just like a forged blade), but for me the extra forgivess and higher launch/lower spin of the ping had to win.

The R510-TP just may be the best driver ever and at the very least it is a modern classic. TM would be wise tp just re-introduce this classic driver, since nothing they have introduced since can top it. Are you listening TM?

I acquired (6) R510-TP's...(two in each of the lofts I may use...10.5*, 9.5* and 8.5*) . Each one was acquired brand new but immediately re-shafted with a new 45" 757 Speeder (Black) Tourspec, tipped 1/2". Each has a Black Tour Wrap Grip..

It is worth noting (3) other 500 Series Tour-issued drivers are also excellent: If you have the chance to pick one any one of these, don't hesitate, for these will soon be very hard to find.

- R500 Tour (325cc) - The SMALLER R510-TP

- R540XD-TP Tour (400cc) - The SHALLOW-FACED R510-TP

- R580XD-TP Tour (440cc) - The LARGER R510-TP

I love them all!

This is funny that this post was started because I was getting ready to start one myself. I work in a golf shop and have access to hit anything and believe me I do. I was recently playing with some coworkers and was using the new Hibore and loving it. We came up to a par 4 that had a ditch and to carry it you had to hit it about 275 on the fly. Well, everybody grabbed driver but me. My buddy hit first and blasted one that barley cleared the ditch. Me being a EGO maniac told myself that I am hitting driver too. I did not feel like walking back to the cart and getting my driver so I decided to hit his. He had a 9.5 R510TP with a speeder 757 stiff. I teed it up and hit it about 15 yards past his ball. WOW, I told myself this driver felt awesome. Like a forged blade. I used it the rest of the round and killed it. I now have a 9.5 R510TP and my bag and am loving it. It goes to show you that technology is good, but not always better! Thanks!

Can someone please compare this to the R7 425 TP?

I think I'm going to get one but am having a hard time accepting the high price tag. The 510TPs can be found much lower so I'm wondering if I should go that route.

Things I love about the 425TP - heavier feel, easy to move in either direction, and doesn't try and go left all the time.

How does the ball flight compare between the two?

Thanks

I've got one in my bag and will get another when I can afford it! Check the signature!

It's arguably one of the best drivers ever made.

I have not had that much time with the R7 425. In my limited experience, the R7 425 is more forgiving and that will translate to more yards with off center hits. Pros for the R7 425 are: you are getting the latest TM technology and though hard to quantify, experience will show that could be worth a few yards here and there or more importantly one more fairway hit when you need it. TM tour reps call this driver their longest driver to date, I don't think they are exaggerating much. Adjustable weights - if your swing is fairly consistent, changing weights will change ballflight. If you are not quite sure what sw feels best to you, changing weights closes that gap without unsightly lead tape.

Cons: Also adjustable weights. In the wrong hands, the combinations out there do you more harm than good. I see people get more obssessed with weight configurations than a solid swing. Adjustable weights do not mask a bad move at the ball, but some people refuse to believe that. No shaft options from TM outside of REAX. For some people, they might like a more compact but still a deep face driver. It's only 35 cc, but at address, the look is different (this is a very minor con). And since it was mentioned, I suppose the other con is price. Compared to r510TP, R7 425 is no bargain, but then again, rarely is the latest release of a product a bargain.

I have an R510 TP ready to be in my bag. It just needs a new shaft. (Got a Speeder 671-TE from a member here.)

The reason that I'll put it in my bag is that I need a driver that will lower spin rate and launch angle. I went to a launch monitor session about a month ago. They had my tried every driver in the store, compared to mine--TaylorMade r5 TP (the one in the signature). And the best driver for me was....TaylorMade r7 425 9.5* w/ Fuji Reax S-Flex. (They didn't have a TP one.) The carry was about the same, but I got more roll with the r7 425, about 15-20 yards! Who wouldn't like that, right?

After a serious thought, I wanted to get an r7 425 TP. But, man, it's still very very expensive. And, you know, we can get it at at least half of the price next year. So, I considered the last year models--R510 TP and r7 TP--and figured both of them could just do the trick. I chose R510 TP because I heard more good things than bad things about it, while it's the opposite for the r7 TP.

The shaft will arrive on the 26th, so I guess by the 28th I should have "TaylorMade R510 TP w/ Fujikura Speeder 671-TE S-Flex" listed in my signature.
