GRIP DOESNT FIT! ANYONE TRIED BOILING WATER?

Just got a new set of winn grips for my clubs from the local pro. The grips fit all of my clubs except for my driver. They fit my callaway x wood with the stock fuji shaft no problem and my cleveland halos no problem as well as all of my irons wedges etc. Am confused as to why they will not fit my driver which is a 905R with an adilla NVS65 stiff shaft in it. Tried everything and it will NOT go on. Even used an air compressor. Also i was wondering has anyone tried to use boiling water to soften up the grips. I know i have boiled many hoses before to get them to slide onto fittings and it works great dunno if it will damage the grips tho so lemme know!

Iv'e heard of this happening before-my local pro can't fit Winns on about half the drivers he has to regrip. I think the rubber on the end just makes it almost impossible to fit the grip onto the shaft.

Pull the grip and check the core. The underlisting probably got torn and is hanging up on the butt. A torn underlisting is the only time that I ever have a problem installing Winn grips.

I dont think its that because I used a grip that i tried on my driver and wouldnt fit and i put it on my 3 wood and it fit fine so i dunno what the deal is.

Winn grips are very tight in nature, the one thing that I do to fix the problem is to place the grip in a toster oven at under 200 degrees for at leat 5 minutes. there are threads that explain other methods such inserting the grip hot water (inside a plastic bag), microwaving it, etc. The heat will soften the rubber, making it more manuverable.

I put them in the microwave for 10 seconds. It will soften them right up.

Have you tried using acetone to put it on instead of mineral spirits or other usual grip solvents? Even gasoline will work. I've noticed with acetone and gasoline...the tough grips become a lot more pliable.

cant be 100% sure, but doesnt the NV and NVS have a larger butt diameter? .610 or .620? I have had this problem when i get a tight .600 or .580 grip and it wont fit on a .610 or .620 butt shaft.

I am pretty sure the NV & NVS are a little larger in butt diameter prior to butt trimming but due to the relatively constant taper design, works out to .600 once butt trimming is complete.

Well i put the grip in boiling water for about 15 seconds or so and it went on. Wasnt really easy but it went on without a huge struggle. Now you can tell your pro how to do it.

The butt of a NV-65 stiff is .625" while most Fujikura shafts are around .600". Check the core size of the Winn's grip.
