Comfort First

Hey Guys,
I was out today for my first round (okay 9 holes) of the year. I picked up a pair of Reebok golf shoes on sale at the end of last year for $30CAD. Cosmetically pleasing, but really bothered me. Some rounds they weren't comfortable, other rounds they just killed. Took'em out today, and have 2 huge blisters on the back of my heels. I assume it's part breaking in, but also partly the shoes. If I played 2 rounds in 2 days (I don't get out often) they would really hurt the front of my feet (where the laces end, towards my toes) and you could see them creasing. These are a tradition leather type of style. Would going to a running shoe type of golf shoe (sorry bad description) help the comfort? I also have a wide foot, Ideally I'd be an 8EE, but haven't found anything in a wide. I'm going to go try some on tomorrow, but am worried they'll be too stiff for me to tell the difference. Any suggestions on a particular model? I'm not looking to spend a ton, but will put out if they fit well and are comfortable. I figure the running shoe style will be more comfortable, while the leather shoes are more like a dress shoe, which always gives me problems.

I have a pair of Nike SP5's, SP6's, and a pair of Walter Hagan brand shoes. None of them have given me any trouble with blisters, walking 9 or 18 holes. The SP5's are similar to a tennis/running shoe, the other two pairs look like dress shoes. With something like shoes, the old "you get what you pay for" really applies. For the sake of your feet, it's worth it to spend a little more for comfort. Breaking in shoes shouldn't involve blisters, etc.

well no offense but u get what you pay for...you may have to shell out some more cash for a nicer shoe...any of the fj models are pretty good, as well as nike sp6 or sp7...ecco is nice too, but more $$$

I'm assuming your Canadian...golf town has Callaway ERC shoes on for like $70 i think and these area great shoe...dont quote me on the price but they are under $100 for sure.

I own adidas, Footjoys and Ecco...amazing shoes. They truly are equipment. Your shoes really matter!

I have small feet and have alot of trouble finding any golf shoe that'll fit let alone for a reasonable price. I swear by Adidas and recently picked up a pair of Oakley. Oakley is just as comfortable after 36 holes. Both bought off ebay sites as I seek where to by 6.5 mens golf shoes. Give Oakley a try if Adidas is not in your size.

Ahh rama have to agree with the Oakley endorsement....though i have not played a round in them they were VERY comfortable when i tried them on!

Awesome thanks alot guys. In fairness, I know I paid very little for the RBK's, and was more hoping that they would work than expecting them to. I took a look around GT today, saw some nice models I liked for around $80-100, which is what I'd ideally like to spend. Oakleys, Callaway's and a few other models were all there. They aren't nearly as stiff and much more padded than my current RBKs. You guys are absoloutely correct that you get what you pay for, and once my blisters go down (popped tonight, hopefully good by monday) I'll be able to some proper fitting shoes. I noticed ALL of the shoes in the store, with the possible exception of 4-5 were MUCH more padded than mine, which I think will help a ton. I also didn't get sized up overly well for the last pair, so I'll sit down and really consentrate on getting the sales person's help and getting them involved.

Reebok suck ! Get yourself some Footjoy gel fusions they are like wearing slippers....

hey all Oakley dudes...the last few shoes i've had were all FJs. currently using ecomforts. i'm considering getting the Oakley zip ties, which i need to special order. i tried a pair of oakley bow ties in the store and the sole seems really stiff compared to the FJs i've had. do they break in after a while or do they stay stiff?

i need wide fit too and hi-tec CDT customs were the only ones that fit properly. very comfortable too.

I would look for some gel fusions. They have been updated to the gfII, so you should be able to find gel fusions in your price range. A very very good walking shoe.

I walk all the time and have never had an issue. They are also available in different widths.

I did "break in" my Oakley's over the winter wearing them in the basement, didn't take long at all. I'm heading out again this AM for another 18 in the Oakley. I did have the Adidas in the car last 18 just in case the Oakley caused some trouble. For now I'm sticking with the Oakley which I currently do not find as stiff. Say it's 34* outside with calm winds is that to cold to play???

Give the Footjoy Contours a try. I really like mine and plan to buy another pair when these are worn out. :golfer:

Went out today and picked up a pair of Etonic Stabilities in a brown/red leather. Alot more comfortable than my other shoes, they also came in a W size which was nice. I tried on a handful and these were the most comfortable, and also best looking in my opinion. Thanks for the help guys. I'll be wearing them around all night to hopefully break them in. There's a touch of rubbing in the heel, but that was in all of my shoes and it doesn't seem to irritate the area at all.

Consider the Footjoy Contour series. Very comfy...first Footjoy shoe I have worn in many, many years. Comfort is my #1 goal and these feel great.
