Need advice on my new X460

she ain't treatin me right
Seriously, I am kinda bummed about this purchase. Actually, my dad bought it for me for helping him out with some new clubs(yes, he is a great guy).

So, I have been playing a Big Bertha II 415 10 degree with a Graphalloy Prolite 35 shaft (regular flex) in it. And honestly, I have been real happy with it. I am a high capper( 25-27 index) , but I have been hitting maybe 60 percent of the fairways with this rig and have really bombed a few. I have no trouble launching the ball in the air and really wouldn't want any more height in my drives. But I had heard alot good things about the X460 and so when my dad offered to get it for me, how could I refuse? Anyway, I spent a good hour in the hitting bay at GolfSmith and ended up getting the stock Fuji shaft in regular flex and the 10 degree head (not the tour version). My swing speed started at about 88 and as I got loosened up, I was swinging around 95-97 with some lower and some higher(I somehow had one at 108 but never got near that again). I was hitting small draws and fades for the most part, so things seemed to be ok.

Well I have been out to the range twice with this new club and I cannot seem to hit this thing straight. The shots are high, very high and to the right about 70 percent of the time. I was teeing the ball pretty low as well. I got maybe three to straighten out.

So my question is, could I have the wrong shaft in this thing or the wrong flex? I was hesitant to get a Cally shaft because the ones in the BB II were, IMHO awful, but I was told that this Fuji shaft was way better than what Cally used to put in their drivers. I am not an expert or a great golfer, but I just don't think my swing is this bad. I am taking my old driver out to the range along with the new one tomorrow to verify.

Does anyone have any input or suggestions? I really want to like this club, the ball explodes off the face, it is just going in the wrong direction! Thanks.

Well seeing as how the version you got has a 2* closed face you must be coming over the top and leaving the face WIDE open or the shaft is too weak for you. The swingweight may be different from what you are used to and that could also be a contributing factor. I have an 8.5* Tour with an aftermarket shaft but it closely (within half a swingweight) matches my previous driver so it works really well for me. One of the straightest drivers I have ever hit.

Honestly, as hard as it may be, bite the bullet and get someone to fix your swing. If you are truely playing to a 25, no amount of money spent on equipment is going to straighten out those drives.

4 years ago I was there. I was spending money on equipment like it was water. I finally took 2 lessons. Got some basic feedback on how to actually swing the club and self taught myself the rest, with tons of hard work and thousands of range balls. Now, 4 years later, I play to a 3.2.

Now when I buy equipment, like the true club 'ho that I am, I know what to expect and what works.

Good luck!

Honestly - I am driving it straight most of the time or I wouldn't have bothered to post anything. I am also taking lessons. With my old driver, I hardly ever slice anymore. Also, the 108 swing speed was a fluke, I never got near that again. I am not an equipment ho hoping the latest will give me a shortcut. Like I said it was a gift. I am just trying to determine why what I am seeing on the range is so different than what the launch monitor equipment was saying I was doing.

Those are just ridiculous comments. I have both the FT-3 Tour and X 460 Tour and crush both of them. I've got the X in my bag now becuase I am a little longer with it and hit it straighter than any other driver I have ever hit. Just because a stick doesn't work for you doesn't mean it won't for someone else. I'm sure if I walked over to a Taylor Made rack and randomly picked up a club the results would be similar to yours. Does that mean the new R7's are worthless? Hardly. It more likely means I picked up a club with the wrong loft and wrong shaft flex for MY swing.
