Courses to play South Of Knoxville ?

Hi gang.

 

It's likely that I'll be at Blackberry Farm Resort about an hour south of Knoxville for a week this summer.

 

Glad it's not on my dime as it looks quite pricey and a bit formal for my taste but we'll see.

 

It looks like Lambert Acres and Laurel Valley are the nearest links to the resort.

Anyone played these courses that would offer an opinion ? Also I am ok with driving up to 45 minutes or so for good play so are there any noteworthy places I might want to look into around the area. We'll be down there late June/early July.

Landmark at Avalon in Lenoir City, TN is about 25 miles from there. I played there at least once a week last summer. Great layout and fast greens.

Rarity Pointe near Lenior City is a great course. There are 3 courses in Tellico Village. Kahite, Toqua and Tanasi in that order. Avalon is good and so is Rarity Bay. All the courses around Maryville aren't that good IMO. Let me know when you are going to be here and maybe we play some golf. Of the courses in the area, I would play them in this order. Kahite, Rarity Pointe, Avalon, Toqua, Tanasi, Laurel Valley. I wouldn't bother with any other course.

If you want to play a great track, try to get on Tennessee National. Norman design, great condition and a good test. It's private, but it is part of a development that is struggling, you may get on by just calling.

Good luck with Tennessee National. You either have to be with a member or land owner to play there. Maybe you can find someone at Blackberry Farms that can get you on there. Let us know if you see any celebs. when you're there:ok:.

I have been hearing that TN National has been struggling. That being said, I still think it would be pretty tough to get on without some connections. I have been meaning to get out to Rarity Pointe for quite some time now, but just have not been able to. Definitely on my list for this summer. To be honest I haven't been able to get out to many Knoxville courses even though I have been here for a couple of years. Avalon, Centennial, Cherokee Country Club and River Island are the only four that I have played. Golfgoob, do you recommend any other courses in the Knoxville area?

Matt, I guess if you can get on at Cherokee you can get on at Holston Hills. Of the public courses around Knoxville, I would play them in this order.
1. Tellico Village- Kahite in Vonore
2. Rarity Pointe
3. River Islands
4. Avalon
5. Ruggles Ferry
6. Tellico Village- Toqua
7. Rarity Bay
8. Tellico Village- Tanasi
9. Three Ridges
10. Laurel Valley.
Maybe when the weather breaks, we'll get together to play some of these courses.

Sounds good to me. Right now my swing is in shambles, but hopefully I can turn it around soon. If we make it to Tellico Village we might have to watch out for the angry, gun-toting retirees up there though. Apparently, the victim worked at the golf course.
