Mac or IBM?

If the market was free and fair, Macs would hold a much larger share of the pie.

Well, let's be correct here though. If Apple had the foresight to open up their operating system the way Microsoft did with MS-DOS way back when, this thread would have an entirely different tone to it. But Apple said 'mine, mine, mine' and MS said, 'gimme, gimme, gimme' market share. The rest is history.

I completely agree. Apple shot themself in the foot, and now they can't get a hold of part of the market.

Im not a 'Microsoft Monopoly' hater, and in now way am I crying for Apple. I just think many new users would buy a mac if they had the chance to understand the differences.

I spoke with my parents last night and my dad had just placed an order for the black Macbook. I told him about the rebate that was offered through amazon. He mentioned he was already debating the cost of the black one, and was considering just buying the basic macbook with a memory upgrade. Then I told him to call and cancel and at least let me order the notebook with the education discount. He agreed and said he'd call to cancel.

I just got a call back from him. He was soo excited. The service rep matched the 100 dollar rebate and said they'd adjust the price of his macbook to reflect the education cost. I just need to fax Apple some info on my enrollment.

Maybe others can use this info to help them get Apple to honor the rebate on something other then the basic macbook.
