Golf North of Dallas?

Specifically Denton Area

Will be in Denton, TX area soon for business and want to play golf. Very tired of snowy Kansas. I don't know anything about courses in the area. Would like to avoid actually going in to Dallas if possible. Any suggestions?

Bear Creek is just soulth of Denton, I played there in the beginning of Dec on a trip, Great courses worth taking a look at.

Preference between East or West? I will only have time for one.

Both courses are great, But I would play the west if I had to choose, Cant go wrong with either one.

I also played Tour 18 and Lake Park while I was down there, Both of them were alright courses but for the money Bear Creek is alot better than both of them IMO

Denton has 3 public courses, and as a visitor I would recommend only Robson Ranch, but there are better choices. I haven't played Bear Creek but have heard good things about it. It is actually on DFW property so depending on where you are staying it could be a good option. Near there is Cowboys Golf Club...as in Dallas Cowboys. It is a really good track, but very pricey. Grapevine Municipal is essentially the same terrain but cheaper.

North of Dallas I would endorse WestRidge in McKinney and Winstar in Thackerville, OK. I am also a fan of Fossil Creek just north of Ft. Worth. Indian Creek and Coyote Ridge in Carrollton aren't bad choices either.

Basically, there are a lot of great options around here.

Tour 18 is fun, but The Tribute in The Colony, though more expensive, is a much better course in my opinion. If you want to play holes you find in British Open's then Tribute is a good option too.

Tour 18 features Amen Corner and Sawgrass #17 and another par 3 with the war bunker in the middle of the green.

+1 for The Tribute - and please take me with you. Now for the bad news, I heard that north Texas actually got some snow on Tuesday with another storm headed that way tomorrow. Good luck

The snow was further south and didn't stick around north of I-20. We have another bout of rain/snow Friday but nothing should stick.

I don't recall a wetter and colder winter in my life. We normally have a 49 week golf season but I've played 4 times since the end of November. I don't mind the temps but it has just been too wet.

I hope it is dry enough to play when you're in town.

I'll be in Dallas-FW next weekend and seriously looking at The Tribute on Saturday. Any more opinions on this place would be appreciated. THX.

I live in Corinth just south of Denton and there are plenty of courses within an easy drive.
Check www.golfq.com for current specials on a lot of these.

You can get to Bridlewood fairly easily from Denton, west of 35E on 1171 in Flower Mound. Nicely maintained and fun to play.
Champions Circle is off 35W at 114 next to TMS. Weird track, re-routed from original layout, kind plays backwards on a lot of holes. Run by Marriott.
Tour 18 is kinda in between the two on FM 407. It's OK.
Never played Lake Park, but it looks extremely flat and the same hole over and over. Just east of 35E at FM 407.
Winstar is just over the state line in OK. Probably 30-45 min from Denton straight up 35, depending. Kinda linsky, kinda traditional.

I forgot to add to PM me if you want, I can try and use a good excuse to get out and join you if you go Sunday. I'm a Hutchinson/Hays/Manhattan refugee, so I can understand escaping the winter blues.

Lake park is a goat track, dead straight no trees, no design and easy.

Tribute was ok, the condition wasn't as good as the price indicates. I thought Tour 18 was fun and interesting with some nice views and some $$$ houses in the neighborhood. Indian Creek (creek course) and Coyote ridge are both pretty good although Coyote ridge is literally on the other side of a land fill.

Give Bridlewood a try in Flower Mound, just south of Denton. You will enjoy yourself. First hole's a birdie opportunity!

Ended up playing Bear Creek East Course and had a great time. Nice course especially at the "super twilight" rate of $25 with gps cart. Thanks for the input guys, Golf WRX is great.
