I can recommend the Nicklaus course at Moon Palace, just off of the island of Cancun. If you're not staying there, it's really expensive though.

I would recommend doing a LOT of research on the condition/recovery status of ANY golf course in the general vacinity of Cancun... after getting whacked by two category 4 hurricanes last year, storm surge alone likely left a mess for the resort and or club crews, let alone wind damage... it's been long enough that I'm sure everything's up to speed once again, but it may pay off to look into this more... just a thought :)

I played Pok-ta-pok golf club when I was in cancun, but it was a LONG time ago and I don't remember what it was like. It's right in the middle of Cancun though.

My wife and I played the Moon Palace course in March. The course was in great shape. It's expensive, but I can't remember exactly how much since it was part of our vacation package. Another couple we played with one of the days also played at Playacar Palace, and they enjoyed it. There were a lot of trees down in the jungle, but the course itself was in great shape. I think all of the courses there have had enough time to recover.

Good to hear that things have recovered nicely down there, golf wise... btw, my cousin is also a Gamecock ;)

I played pot-tapok three time two years ago and it was a solid course course nice design but not in terrific condition but solid. It doesnt have and good pratice facilities but its ok much better than expected for 50 bucks. I played the hilton course as well greens were faster and it was in better condition but not worth the 180 dollars.

I played moon palace 04 July and it is very nice Jack Nickulas designed course. There is a alot of funky animals that walk out of the jungle. And there is 1 aligator by the 17th green but all and all for $250 a round and $180 after 2:00 it is a bit pricey! But worth it. If you are staying in moon palace resort try to go thru the shared vacation tour it takes about 1 hour of your time but you get a free round of golf for going thru it.

i know this thread is from a few years back but i just wanted to enforce the Mayakoba reviews. i've played it about 3 times in the past and about to play it in early june. it's a fantastic course, although challenging, i really enjoy playing there... and the fairmontt hotel is amazing (real cheap prices right now because of the whole influenza thing that's been affecting the US and Mexico).

I played Pok-ta-pok when I went in 07 on my honeymoon. After my experience, if you gave me a free round, I would give it away. It was probably the worst course I have ever played on, and I've played some goat-ranches. I paid $125, and the only saving grace was that all the alcohol I could down during the 4 hour round was included, so I got drunk enough to not care. It had potential to be a decent course (not great, but at least decent) but it would need a multi-million dollar revamp. The cart girl was good looking (especially after the 15 beers and 9 or so shots of Cazadores).

We're going back for a friends wedding in February, and we're staying at Moon Palace. We are planning to play the course there, and I'm looking forward to it.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
