Play em or hide em..what would u do?

So I found a mint set, they were pricey but the're just what I always wanted but couldn't afford in high school. This set came from a senior tour player and I believe by looking at the ferrules/shafts, they were prabably custom to him. Anyway, they have Apex 4 extra shafts and play a little longer than 38 in the 5 iron. I took them out to the course and had a grin the whole round. I wasn't to keen about the shafts though. I have a incling to unpin them and throw something else in them as I still think these heads are one BHs best. What would do you guys think, what would you do?

The PC is a gorgeous club and was manufactured back when Hogan clubs were extremely well made with the pins. I've never owned a set but was looking at some on the Bay last year that were in new condition. You say you always wanted them; now you have them. I'd say go ahead and game them. You could give the current shafts a bit more time on the course and switch them out later on if you desired.

Clubs are for hitting balls with in my book, so I'd be playing them.

They're a fine iron, one of the best forgings that Hogan made, and are still a perfectly viable club for a decent ballstriker who's looking for a traditional blade appearance and a lower, flatter ballflight. I'd be giving the shafts a bit more time than just a single round but, if it transpires that they're really not for you, I'd be whipping them out, putting something else in, and getting them set up to my preferred specs and in the bag. The pinned hosels make reshafting a bit of a chore, but you've got a set that are worth the extra bit of effort.

I have a set of PCs with Apex 4 shafts in and agree with the consensus here that they are a fine iron that it is entirely viable to be played now and which stacks up well with anything made since. Personally I like the Apex 4 shaft so perhaps give it a little more time.

Play them and enjoy them. That is why we play golf.

Apex 4 shafts were the "stiff" - the Apex 5 are the extra stiff.

I agree with the above posters. I also picked up a set in the fall that are in excellent condition with Apex 4 shafts. I played a set from 1986 to 90 and loved them. I think the apex 4 extra was a tad heavier than the standard 4. The PC's were one of the best Hogans made, play them.

i bought a brand new set of PC's on Ebay last year for $160. used em for a while then sold em... nice irons

i've got a set myself, they're not my favorite, although they are beautiful.

like the majority i say play them. give the shafts some time (apex's are great shafts), and if they really don't work out replace them.

I am proud to say, that I own 7 sets of them. These were the first new set of clubs that I ever owned. I paid 350.00 plus sales tax for a set of 1 thru E wedge. I lived in South Carolina then, and most golf course and driving ranges are sand based. I wore the chrome off the bottom of every iron and from 5 iron on down, the face had a black rusty place on them. I admit I wasn't much a ball striker then, as the rusty spot was quite huge.

As far as I am concerned, they are the best set of golf clubs ever made. I still play or rotate two sets of Redline's and one set of PC's. You can hit all the shots with them. And the one iron is just one of the best one iron's I have ever hit.
