Anyone played with Ping Rapture Irons?

Read most of the online reviews but not much on player input.
Has anyone played with Ping Rapture Irons - early or newer V2's ???


Thoughts on the titanium face ??

Distance consistency ??

Feel ??

AWT shafts feel, etc. ??



I notice that the lofts are really pumped up and there's a lot of gap between the UW, PW, and 9. How does that work out on course ??



The local golf shop doesn't have them in stock for me to range test.

I have G5s and I love them. Very solid. On a whim, there's a range connected to my local golf shop so I took out a Rapture 6i and 8i to hit. Wasn't expecting much and besides, they're very expensive.

WOW! I was blown away. Solid, Solid, Solid. Worth it IMHO. Better than the G5, G10 and G15. The irons I hit had DG R300's from Ping Wrx in them and they were amazing. Didn't hit them in the AWT but I'm sure they'd feel every bit as good. If they weren't so expensive I'd be all over a set in a heartbeat. They're definitely a set I want to get next after my G5's wear out, which may be never.

I have to admit, I'm a little biased towards Ping irons. But I never hit the Raptures before thinking they were way too high handicap for me (I'm a 4 cap snob) and too bulky. I've been eyeing a set of i15's but man, after hitting them I was really wanting a set. It's harder to work but high and straight ain't bad at all.


Titanium face...this had me alittle worried, but its not an issue. I like my irons to feel a certain way and I thought the face would feel tingy and hard. Not true at all. Definitly not Mizuno soft, definitely cast feel, but solid feel.

Distance consistency....Pretty good. I thought I might get the proverbial 20yd. hot shooter, but it didn't happen. I hit about 100 balls and they were very consistent IMHO. I did hit them 10 yds longer than my G5's though, the lofts are strong! Might need a gap wedge.

Feel...outstanding, amazing, shocked at how solid they were.

AWT shafts...no experience with them in the Raptures. All in all, if you can find a demo day, go hit them, I was pleasantly surprised out how nice they were.

I bought my Raptures last year when I was HC 12 and now have reached HC 6 and switching to AP2's. They have exactly been hit around 50 rounds. They were the best Irons as you can see it reduced my HC to half. I am not by any means a long hitter and probebly others will hit the same club longer than me but here are the distances:

I have the fiberglass shaft in mine and BTW they are for sale.

[b][i]According to the pro at my muni (Pointe Golf Club, North Carolina), Ping has relaxed their pricing structure (or something like that)..They have a set of Rapture irons that were marked $1199, and sat on the rack for at least 9 months...I'm guessing they have the stock AWT shaft, never looked because of the price..They are marked down to $699 (with Ping's approval)....A pretty good deal for anything with PING on it....[/i][/b]

Okay, I sprung for it.
Ordered a custom set of Ping Rapture V2's.
Dynamic Gold shafts, Swingweight to D-4, Length 1/4" over, Lofts 1 degree weaker across the set (higher flight) to compensate for the flex point of the Dynamic Golds.
Ping takes awhile on custom orders.
In the meantime I'm playing Wilson Staff Pi's (Padrig Harrington's clubs) and Ping I-10's, also with Dynamic Gold steel shafts.

FWIW my son has a set of Ping G-10's and the AWT shafts in regular flex are on the stiff side. I was told they were equiv. to Dynamic Gold R300's. There's also Ping AWT soft-regular flex. I think the Dynamic Golds are way more stable and consistent thru the set.
