Mizuno forged irons

MS-9

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the mizuno MS 9 forged blades? I have a friend in the golf industry and am looking at obtaining a set so I was wondering about some info about them. The guy he got them from said that they were a tour prototype so I was just wondering. Thanks.

The MS-9 model was an early to mid 1990s model. The US distribution version was the MP-9, a fairly compact forged blade. Generally, Mizuno designated European/Asian market models with the MS label. MP-11s in the US, MS-11s in Europe and Japan. But Mizuno had a lot of different models in their home market, so the model number didn't always tell the whole story.

The MP/MS-9 is a classic forged blade. The long irons are going to look small by today's standards. They also had a scored lines along the sides of the face, which kept me from buying a set of them. The MP-9 can frequently be found on Ebay. I wouldn't count on them being a prototype set of any kind, unless there is some kind of identifiable difference in the placement of the model lettering or something that would clearly indicate that an early or prototyping set of forging dies were used.

These were very popular irons, ie 10 years ago...Jeff Sluman played them and lots of other pros...US and Europe.

I would suggest you look at the MP 37's, one of the current blade models Mizuno offers. These are just like the Mizuno MP 29's, which they stopped making a few years ago. They really are solid, great irons.
