Ping S57 Tour

Anyone familiar with the PING S57 Tour irons ???

I want a conforming set. I want a set w/ little offset.

I've been playing "muscle back" irons for 30+ years and looking for some forgiveness without loss of control.

Any comments on the S57 Tour ??

Not sure if the S57 are conforming, pretty sure the next line will be though. They play like a solid player's cavity back, thin top line, little offset, compact heads but easier to hit than Titleist 710 MB or Mizuno MP 68.

you can order s57's w/ conforming grooves thru the wrx dept.

if you dont mind forged irons then pretty much every current and previous titleist and mizuno iron sets conform to the new rule.

I enquired with Ping about conforming grooves for S57's and was told they are only available to touring professionals. As far as forgiveness, they aren't any more forgiving than MP68's in my opinion.

I have gamed both the mp68 and the s57s. nothing beats the feel of a purely struck mizuno iron but for me it I am always trying to find the balance between feel and forgiveness. For the record, I feel the mp68s are very forgiving for what they are, but the s57s have them blown out in terms of forgiveness - well I should rephrase, for the types of misses that I have they are more forgiving (I usually miss on the toe) What I am curious about is how the s57 compare against the new j38 CB's

Played S57's for the past 2 years, recently switched to MP68's. Obviously with either set forgiveness shouldn't really be a huge factor in your choice... That being said as far as "forgiveness" goes between the two S57 by a LANDSLIDE. I still love the S57's, but the forged Mizuno feel cannot be touched.

My misses are closer usually closer to the heel which probably explains why I like the 68's better.

I had a brief stint with the J38 cavity and was very disappointed. They are huge in comparison to other players irons in my opinion. The swingweight was extremely light. I can't say they are a bad. They just aren't my cup of tea. If I had to choose between S57's and J38's, I'd give S57's the nod. The biggest selling point for me with any Ping club is durability and lie angle retention, especially for someone who spends a lot of time at the range.

I bounce back & forth between....

Titleist 680
Mizuno MP-60

The Mizuno's have that buttery feel that most folks like.......
Titleist has a firmer feel which lets me know "exactly" where I stand with my swing....

I honestly feel that the Titleist feel is better for me. I've felt the PING feel is more like a Titleist in terms of firmness. Mizuno has the buttery ((soft)) feel that at times leaves me wondering what just happened.

I'll likely try both S57's & Titleist AP-2's. In the end, I've got two sets that probably can't be improved upon. The GI irons have my interest, but again I find myself wondering what just happened after a mis-struck shot. I've messed with the G-5's and love the forgiveness, but can't improve much if I don't know what is going on.

The 680's allow you to really take dead aim. Hard to get away from that.
