Best method/courses to play Myrtle for 1-2 players?

Hello,

We are taking the family to Myrtle Beach May 16-23. I'd like to play 3-4 times, 2-3 times with my wife.

What is the best way to book decent courses at decent prices?

The previous times we've gone there, we booked discount times from one of the places that had a kiosk in Martin's [a while back -- I know we paid less than $100 for Caledonia...].

Do I go to a packager and try to plan everything ahead of time? Or should I wait to book times when I get down there?

Also, any quick suggestions for great, $50-$100 courses? We're staying at the Marriott across from Grand Dunes.

P.S. Any SUPER low-key courses I can take my 5 year old to play a little?

Contact Brian Noblin at Golf Desk (www.golfdesk.com) and he'll set you up properly. He'll know about aeration schedules, any other issues with course conditions, which courses will work best for your location, and have opinions about best value, as well as obviously packages and good pricing. I highly recommend him.

2nd on Brian! I booked thru him last time when my son and I did the Father/Son event - he has a great organization.

I would suggest going out later in the day with your kid - usually less people and cheap rates. We did not play at any 'top tier' courses most were @$40-$75 per round if I remember correctly and most courses were excellent - so don't think you have to pay $100+ to play a good course.
We played
Barefoot - Norman (I think the lower cost of the 3 Barefoot courses - 'resort' type course)
Heather Glen (cool course! would play again)
Crow Creek (really like that course, a bit simple - but scenic and laid back)
River Hills (yea - this one was challenging, we played it 3 times...need to play it more than once to 'figure it out')
Wild Wing (IMO meh, but we had a wet rainy day)
Farmstead (part in NC, part in SC..#18 is a par 6 (679 from white, 712 from blue - fun course, we played here 3x as it was cheap and open)

I obviously have not played alot of courses here - but of the ones I played....I would recommend Crow Creek (a bit further north) and Farmstead to play with your wife as both of these courses are not overly challenging and were not too crowded, seemed not too stuffy (at least when we went). On your own - try Heather Glen and/or Dornoch...River Hills is a memorable course too

You are staying in a good location...visit the barefoot area at night, good for families. Lots of good places for breakfast / pancakes!

MBN.com also offers a lot of information such as rates, pics, videos, etc... I've used them a couple times with no problems and have also heard good things about using Brian.
