Best Courses Around Bristol

Looking at moving to Bristol from Leeds, interested in some views on the best courses in the area, anybody got any suggestions?

I can't help you in the area of prospective membership, but I can offer an opinion on the best course in that neck of the woods.

I've played Burnham & Berrow's Championship Course a time or two and rate it very highly. 25 miles or so south of Bristol on the coast of the Bristol Channel, it's a cracking links that's regularly used for top level amateur competition.
Colt and Mackenzie both involved. Needless to say, it turned out well.

It's a welcoming club with a good atmosphere, and outside of competition it's visitor-friendly. On a sunny day with a bit of wind blowing it's a gem.

Another nice track within spitting distance is St Pierre. Nip over the river and you'll find the former venue of several pro events in the 70s and 80s and site of a prevous Solheim Cup. It's a while since I've played there but I remember it being a nice track. A mature parkland layout with some good holes. I think it's a Marriott-owned course now.

Bristol and Clifton - and you get great practice facilities there too. I also rate Long Ashton (nearby) and if you want to go further a field try The Players Club and Manor House (Castle Coombe).

I agree with mat, B&BGC is one of the finest links, and very friendly. We make the pilgrimage 4 times a year from Bucks and stay in the dormi-house. Bristol and Clifton is also great and superb views.

I agree with everything that as been said above
it also depend's which side of Bristol you are thinking of moving too.
The Player's is a brute so don't know wether you'd want to play that week in week out
The kendleshire is a superb venue with great practice facilities and superb Green's
The Bristol Golf club is Ok
Clifton and long ashton are very good members courses.
outside of Bristol, you have Weston super mare,Chipping Sodbury, Bath GC
and just a short journey over the severn bridge you have St Pierre, Celtic Manor and Rolls of Monmouth
Burnham and Berrow is class, a great Championship link's Course.

Burnham and Berrow, great links track easy drive down the M5 from Bristol.
Kendleshire - great facilities and always top notch when I have been there.
Cumberwell Park, very very good facilities particularly short game practice area. Not played it but walked around following a pro event and was really impressed, will be driving up from Plymouth to play it in summer. It is over towards Bath but and easy enough drive.
I have heard Players is good but not played it.

Not from there but my daughter lived in Bristol and Portishead. On visits there I enjoyed Clevedon quite a bit. Has great views and was in very nice condition.
