Family Time But Bringing CLubs
I will be in North Myrtle.....at the Marriott. Looking to play some nicer course if anyone knows where you can get deals (last minute time places?, package ideas, locals who want to play and have contacts at clubs. Anyone have any info and looking to play. I shoot somewhere from 75-85...and dont mind playing with lower or higher handicaps. Just looking to have fun and maybe meet someone i have talked to via this site for years. Would most likely either be early week or late in the week. If you are interested in playing some golf, let me know.

A lot of nice courses in North Myrtle. I tend to splurge and play premium-priced courses when I go down, so my recommendations are tilted towards the high side. But in June prices are lower, particularly if you play the afternoons, which will be much less expensive than the morning. Tidewater's my favorite, Grande Dunes is really nice, as are the Barefoot courses. I'm sure others will chime in with other suggestions as well.

Make sure you check the aeration schedule at whichever course(s) you decide upon, since May/June are heavy aerating time down in Myrtle Beach.

Have fun!
Chris

I'm going to bump this, leaving the 19th for north Myrtle with large family group. I haven't looked into golf yet as my father-in-law might not be able to play due to a back injury, but am hoping to get at least three rounds in.
Easy enough to get a tee time the day before or do I need to look into it now?
Thanks

I *think* you should be fine, but my suggestion is to contact a well-regarded packager down there: Brian Noblin at 800/642-3108. He'll let you know whether you need to prebook or whether you can wing it. When I went down a few months ago and planning to play 36 per day, we booked our morning rounds and were debating whether we should prebook our afternoon rounds (more expensive) or utilize the discount available via same-day replays. Some people were advising me to do the former. Brian told me that despite that being Myrtle Beach's peak season, that since it was just two of us we should be fine. We were, and saved some money as a result. Brian's a good guy - give him a call.

He also runs a forum that is a veritable wealth of information if you're interested in getting more information.

2 week trip with the family.....they come first. However, I have tee'd it up a couple of times. 1) Grand Dunes: Great Course...ok greens....horrible service. 2) Glen Dornoch......awesome greens, horrible starter....awesome staff in the club house...probably the toughest finishing hole of any course I have played in MB. fyi....they are getting ready to punch the greens in a few weeks.

Most places in the summer slow down (and get alot cheaper) in the afternoons, you won't have any trouble getting on them without a prebooked tee time. Just call the day before and you'll be all set I'd wager.

Here is the MB Maintenance schedule link.

Glen Dornoch will aerate June 25-26 just spoke to them today while booking TTs for the week of july 3. Should be in good shape right now. Tide water has had some real green issues the last few years, I would call prior to booking their see what they say about them

That's true about Tidewater...in the past. The greens were in fantastic shape when I played in April, and all the trip reports I see on a Myrtle Beach forum I frequent indicate that Tidewater is still in great shape. In the past, those comments have highlighted the problems - so the conditions have definitely turned around. Tidewater is IMO a must-play course while you're there.
