5 ponds golf in PA

I haven't played it in years, but Five Ponds is a nice layout. My biggest complaint of it is that you can feel like you are in a shooting gallery on a number of holes.

In terms of public tracks in that area, it's pretty slim pickings.

i've played it a few times it is decent muni like course... can be slow... lots of retired folks.
My inlaws live near there.
There is a fantastic course i played with a roup of people, run as some sort of youth reform place, i can't remember the name of it, is top rated public i think in pa. not too far away from there? I know glen mills but wanted to stay closer to Ambler. How about limelick?

I assume you are referring to Limekiln? I can't say I'd recommend it.

If you are willing to drive to Norristown you might want to give Jeffersonville a shot.

Unfortunately Montgomery and Bucks counties don't have much to offer in terms of public golf.

There's Jeffersonville (I recommend), Westover, Centersquare (over priced in my opinion, but some people love it), Skippack and Pine Crest to name a few.

I believe you can get on Plymouth CC for 65 or so during the week, call the clubhouse though.

Play Glen Mills. It's worth every second and every mile of the drive.

Five Ponds is a nice mid-range public track, it's gotten significantly better in the last few years. Like any muni, rounds are slow and you'll have to put up with some people. I'd recommend it over Limekiln or Pinecrest. Or even Plymouth, which is a private course, although like the other poster said, I think you can get on with a call. I agree that Centre Square is overrated, I'd choose Five Ponds over it. Glen Mills is MUCH MUCH better than any of these, not even in the same league.

If you're up for a little drive from Ambler, Turtle Creek is a good spot as well. Probably 30 minutes from Ambler.

Thanks guys. I do know glen mills but we were pressed for time. I def plan on playing it soon.
We ended up playing five ponds and loved it. It was cheap and played in 3 hours 20 minutes as a twosome. Conditions were great and it wasn't busy at all. Very enjoyable.

I agree - I played 5 ponds a few weeks ago and it was in great shape. Northhampton Valley is a decent little public course around there too. Nothing too fancy, but it's a decent track.

Also - for those of you who might be a little more South - check out Riverwinds over in Jersey (maybe 20 minutes from center city). I played it 2 years ago before Jaws took over and the course was terrible. This year it looks like they got their act in gear. I played it twice last week and the course is in GREAT shape. It's a tough layout, but has a great variety of holes.

Also, it was $35 for 18 holes, including a cart at 2:30pm. It's a tough deal to beat.

Really? I thought Jaws was going to change the way that place played, including the price to get on. Good to hear that it's cheap, I may check that out next time I go down into Jersey.

Well, from what I saw, any changes he's made have been for the better (except for the cart girl who was.....not cute).

We actually ran into him on the 17th tee. Looked like he was driving around glad handing the customers. Kinda cool - especially when complimented my tee shot!
