Well, I did it !

...bought myself the staff bag I was dreaming of....

Have been thinking about it ever since I first saw it on Tour used by Padraig..... I'm not too fond of staff bags but.... No club dividers.... They're quite big but.... There's lot of room in them and they look awesome ! So I just purchased this one yesterday, and just love it ! My FG-59s will look awesome in it !

Speaking of which.... I just turned 50 two weeks ago. Can't load these S300 as I used to..... Had to have these FG59s reshafted with R300..... Boy do I hate to get old. Actually, it was much worse during the 6 months preceeding the actual birthday, I was litterally obsessing about turning 50 and how awful it would be..... Had a nice party on the 20th with family and friends, and now, what, I'm 50, so what ! I can carry a staff bag, they're from my generation after all !!!

Great bag, I just got one myself and I really like it a lot. It has a lot of room (can fit all of my rain gear in it) and looks great, the first time I took it out I got a lot of compliments on it. The FG59's do look sweet in it.

Nice gift to yourself. I won't say congratulations on the Birthday, as I turned 50 last year, and I didn't really obsess before it, but I sure have afterward. A year later and it seem like my body has fallen apart and I lost 20 yards off the tee and 1 club on every iron. I had knee surgery in February, and will be undergoing two eye procedures this month. I've never had so much pain playing golf and just plain walking around as I've had this year. Running is 100 percent out now, so my exercise has been relegated to walking which is even hard after about 1/4 mile.

It's mostly in my hips and knee, but all the Doc says is it's arthritis, and I'm too young for knee or hip replacement so pretty much just take Advil and live with it.

Sorry, didn't mean to get on a whoa is me rant there. But I understand about the 50 thing, Best of luck to you and hey don't worry about getting those irons re shafted, I went to a R Flex this year in my irons and it's the best thing I've ever done.

It's funny you're mentioning all this Carolina Golfer because I built a new house last summer and I have been working on the landscaping last week end, planting trees, flowers, moving things around etc.

Now listen. I'm 6'2" and 210, fairly strong built. The day after I planted all this stuff, I thought I was getting paralyzed, I could barely move out of the bed ! 2 days later I can still barely lace my shoes, and soon as I have to stand up I look as if I was a disabled slowly recovering... I'm sad to read that things have gturned the way they have for you physically, but I'm sure glad to realize I'm not alone !

Now I just wrote I'm 6'2". That's what I used to be like. Just for fun we measured everyone during my birthday party and I'm now 6'1.5"..... I already shrank half an inch !

LOL!!! I feel your pain litterally. I played 27 holes on Tuesday of last week, and I felt it bad for 3 days. You got me thinking about the height thing, I've been saying for 30 years that I'm 6'5"...Maybe I better check that now. The other problem, is I've gone from 258 to 276 in the past 18 months. A lot of it is due to not being able to exercise as much, but I defintely need to do more push aways!!

Trust me we are not alone, there was a thread about a year or so ago by someone who had just turned 50 and the thread turned into let's compare aches and pains type deal. I swear when I used to hear older people do that (when I was 30 I swore I never would be like that but here I am )

Speaking ofg FG59s, as tremendously gorgeous as they look I find them somewhat harder to hit than my set of MP33s, but when you find the sweet spot it's a real treat.

The FG59's are not the most user friendly club, but when your swing is on they are just plain fun to play.

Great bag! As for getting old. Join the club. Last Wed. I took down a 100 year old oak that was sort of hanging over the house, I had it cut up and stacked by the end of the day. On Thursday I tried playing 9 holes and just about died. Today at the range I couldn't hit a bad shot. Getting old sucks.

how do you like your Wilson Smooth driver? I havent had a chance to hit the Smooth or the Spine driver yet

When it comes to drivers I'm just plain stupid. I have been though countless drivers over the last 4 or 5 years. Basically all brands, except perhaps Cleveland. Amongst the best I had were the Burner 07 and the Wilson Staff Pd6, which I was fool to sell.

I first purchased a Staff Smooth with the stock Fujikura 360 stiff shaft in May, but it was taking my ball flight too low, so Golf Town graciously took it back and gave me one with the regular shaft instead (remember, I just turned 50). I love the looks of it (very elegant), and the sound, and the fact that it's not overly long, and the nice, solid feel at impact.

The only downside really is it's fairly light (D1) and I'm not used to that, so I tend to pull shots to the left every once in a while. So I just added some lead tape with the hope that I could get a little past D2, I will see how things work next weekend. I realize the problem is not with the driver per se, it stems from the fact that most of my other clubs are longer than normal and therefore have heavier swing weights, so when I pull the driver it feels like a feather albeit it's very well designed and balanced IMO, - it's rather just me and my rythmn being used to heavier stuff.

I don't know what I'm going to do if the lead tape doesn't fix the problem. Since I like the head very much and how it looks at address (very traditional, - like me), I might pull the shaft out and use a 75g regular instead (the stock one is 65g I believe) and see what happens.

As for the Spine, I know it sold well in some branches of Golf Town around Montreal, but overall sales were a flop, but its looks and length turn me off. But I hit in a net a few times, and this thing wants to get really square at impact, pretty cool. Can be had for $100 or less at GolfTown right now (so does the Smooth), as Wilson Staff just introduced a new driver called the ShockWave.
