Titty Irons

690.CB, 695.CB, 735.CM
Hey! Lifetime Titleist Iron user here and i'm in deep contemplation on what my new iron set is to be to replace my old R Flex 690.CB. The shafts are now too weak for me and i am in need of a new set anyway, so here's my question. Are the 695.CB's any harder to hit than the 690.CB. I saw on the Titleist website that the 695.CB were for 0-5 Handicaps and i'm about a 7, but then saw that the 735.CM's are for 0-10 handicaps. I can hit my 690.CB's without any trouble, but don't want to buy the 695's and not be able to hit them. Should I pull the trigger on the 695.CB's or stay safe with the 735.CM? Also any experiences with both is appreciated. THANKS!

I have owned them all, and found the 695s to be as easy to hit as either of the other sets. All a matter of preference, IMO. The 735s might be slightly more forgiving due to their size, which is SLIGHTLY larger than the other 2 sets. I found the 695s to feel the best of the bunch, but it may be due to the shaft (tfr 6.0). All are great sets of irons - three of my favorite. I recommend going with the one you like to look at, as the performance has been nearly indistinguishable, IMO.

Yeah, don't let your hdcp alone judge what irons you choose. I am a 4 hdcp and have been using the titleist 681's for about 10 yrs. I just switched to some 704cbs and it has made a big improvement on my game. I hit the blades very well, but the forgiveness of the cbs have helped my last scores be 72-73-71.

Try whatever looks and feels good to you.

I have owned two of the sets and played around with the third:

I recently switched from 690.cb to the 695cb. I have played around with the 735s as well. The 695cb may a little (and I mean a little) bit harder to hit in the long irons. The short irons are no different with the exception of feel. The 695s are the softes Titleist irons I have ever hit and I have played 6 different sets of cavity backs from titleist. I have mine bent a little weaker in the short irons so I did not have to completely change my wedges around. The 735s might be easier to get up in the long irons but I currently have a demo 6 iron in my bag (shaft testing) and it is in no way easier to hit than the 695. The feel is the selling point for me.......I would say that the 695cb is a close rival to the feel of Mizunos. I can make a good comparison there because I tried a set of 32s between my 690s and my 695s so while people may not agree with me, I can at least base my opinion on having played both. good luck.

Keep in mind that there is a new set coming out soon. The 755s are fairly popular on tour and according to one of the members on this site that has hit them, they are fairly soft (close to the 695s) but more forgiving.

joneser,

i was interested in your comments about the 690.cb vs the mp32. i just demo'ed a set of the mp32s, and it was the first time i hit mizuno irons on a grass range. they felt considerably softer than the 690s - i really liked the feel. i have played Titleist for quite a while, but the 32s had me thinking.

how would you rate the long irons between the 690s, 695s and the 32s, and why did you switch from the 32s to the 695s? did you try the 695.mbs?

thanks,

kevin

Kevin, its tough to say for sure because I have had some problems adjusting to the shafts. I played TFR 6.0 for years but started to feel like my short irons in the 690.cb were not carrying as far as they should because they were not getting high. This may have been in my head. My handicap hovers around 2 and I play with guys that are low single digit up to about 12 or so. I am typically as long or longer than anyone in the group but my short irons were definatly short in comparison. Probably should not have bothered me but it made me tinker. I figured I would just get a new set of clubs so I went to a demo day thinking MP60 or 735. Well, hit the 735s and they felt a little harsh. Hit the mp60 and mp32 and they felt awesome. I swore I would never go with another blade style club just because I want a little forgiveness. Well against my better judgement I went with the 32s. They felt great but I had a tendency to dig them in the ground and bottom line is they are not as forgiving as my 690.cbs were. I originally did not think about the 695s because of the strong lofts but talked with a club pro that I trust and has been alot of help and he told me that the 695s were softer than the 735s and to give them a try. I could always bend them. So hit another demo day and they were definatly softer and had a better sole for my game.

I have been hitting the 695s for a while now and think they are a great club. I am still struggling a little with the shaft. I am about ready to pull the trigger on a reshaft to a project x 5.5 or a black gold. I love the feel and I honestly think they are very close to the miz. I beleive they are significantly softer than the 690.cb. In the long Irons, I do not have a problem getting them up in the air. I personally do not think there is a major diff. in forgiveness with the 690.cb or the 695cb. The mizunos felt great but bottome line is the mp32 is not as forgiving as either titleist. I know everyone swears by the Mizuno feel and i to love it but these 695s are very soft and depending on the shaft they can be butter.

The 690's are a great set. Why not just reshaft them with stiffer shafts?

I loved the 690s but it was going to cost me alot of money put another set of rifles in or even project x. A friend got me a deal that I could not pass up on the 695s so I ended up going with them and selling the 690s. The 695 is definately softer and they are very close in every other way.
