MP33 vs. J33B

I'll start this post saying that I'm a loyal Mizuno iron man, but I'm loving everything else Bridgestone. Given that they're a similiar design of forged blade, I thought it'd be interesting to hear from members who have some experience with both (I've never even seen the J33's in real life, let alone hit them).

 

Any comparisions of size, shape, look at address, feel, grind, overall performance....well you get the idea...would be real helpful.

the mp33 seem to fly a little higher, i have a set of mp33, and i guy i know has the bridgestones both with s300, the mp33's are softer (not always better). the clubs look about the same at address but most blades look the same to me. i think the soles are close to the same size. the bridgestones feel like they have more bounce to me.

 

 

 

I don't think you could go wrong with either club, both are nice. if you like a crisp feel at impact the bridgestone is for you, if you like butter soft, almost muddy the mp33 is for you.

I've played both and am currently playing the j33b. It's a great iron and if you are a highball hitter it's ever better. I love the fact that I finally have a bit of trajectory control over my ball. When you get your hands on a set, you'll notice that they have a "australian blade" type of design. I do find the j33b to be a smidge more difficult to hit, for whatever that's worth. they have that great click feel that wasn't present with mizunos, and I'm loving that click. as for grind, i htink they play better off hard conditions than the 33s did for me, and they still don't want ot dig. Look at address seems to be less offset in the j33 and slightly boxier in the toe.

Personally knowing how hard it is to find Bridgestone irons around here, i feel your problem. I play J33B and i just love the irons. As previous posters said, it has that click sound when you hit the ball. I know alot of members on WRX don't like this click and prefer butter soft mizunos. However, I have quite gotten to like this click sound from my irons.

 

Concerning shape and exterior concerns...... shape is very similar between two irons, but MP-33 is considered mid-sized blades where as J33B is considered more of traditional sized blades. At address, toplines were about the same, but I noticed a little more of offset in MP-33. Maybe it was due to how the hosel of mizuno is placed.... anothering thing, J33B has that nice satin finish that I preferred over glossy chrome finish of MP-33.

From what I gather, the MP-33's are easier to hit blades. I own a set but I didn't think that any iron could have less offset until apocalypes mentioned it. I think the Bridgestones are aimed at those who want more control than those who are satisfied with the MP-33's.

 

Scotte, I'd have to say the 33's have a slightly different head shape than Titleist blades but then again, I think all Titleist clubs look different to everything else.

Having read so much about them on here, i decided to try them. Have to say i was disappointed though, seemed to have a very hard feel to them. MUCH clickier harder feel than even my srixons.

Very nice club but not keen on the feel

The Mizunos have a very soft smooth feel though.

replying about beninfluence's post.... I would agree that bridgestone have clicker sound to them than mizunos. However, most of us are confusing feeling soft and sounding soft. As far as i can conclude, when a shot is pured, bridgestone and mizunos both feel great, but bridgestone has more prominent click sound compared to mizuno. Just my opinion.

I've played both and prefer the J33B's. At address the J33B's are more compact, less offset and a slightly thinner topline than the MP33's (more mid-sized, slightly offset (yuk) and thicker topline). I feel like I can control trajectory better because of the less offset, easily moving the balls and all different kind of shots. In terms of feel, I do not notice the 'click' others posters have referenced with the J33B's. If hit in the sweet spot, the J33B are just as solid and soft as the MP33. 1020 is softer thean 1025 carbon steel afterall! My handicap has dropped from a 3 to +1 since getting the J33B's last year......
