Helping The Deployed Military

Just got permission from Easyyy to Post

Hello Everyone,

As most of yall know, I am Army, stationed at Fort Stewart Georgia with the 3rd Infantry Division. I returned from Iraq in January and While I was there, I learned of a Great Program that really helps the deployed soldiers. The name of the program is Soldiers Angels. You can log on to WWW.SOLDIERSANGELS.COM for the whole info on this program. Here is the gist of it. We have a ton of soldiers deployed right now as you all know. This program allows people to basically adopt a soldier for the period of their deployment overseas. All this entails is writing him some letters and Sending a care package once a month. The care package doesn't have to be anything special. The best care package I ever recieved contained a 6 pack of fresh clean white socks, some beef jerkey, and kool-aid. I was adopted for the last 6 months of my deployment. I always looked forward to mail call, as getting a letter or a package really lets you know that the people back home are thinking of you. If you can find the time to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, pass it on to your friends. I talk to Patti daily about this program. She is the one who organized it. Right now we have too many soldiers with too few people adopting them. I have listed this on www.cameroncollector.com and in the past week the members there adopted 15 soldiers. Here is a quick list I have been giving out on cameroncollector.com The members there found it usefull so I will post it here as well. God Bless Yall.

1)Clean Socks- White or black. Feet sweat alot over there

2) Drink Mixes - Something like Gatorade, or Kool Aid. Believe me, drinking plain water day in and day out is not fun.

3)Snack Foods- We call it Pogey Bait. I don't know where the term comes from. Items like the snack size packs of chips and crackers. We are on the road alot, and Items like these help when you can just munch down on it while in the hatch and not have to worry about a huge bag of chips getting all over the place.

4) Candy - Try for hard candy. For some reason Choclaate doesn't do too well in the desert. LOL A good one is Jolly Ranchers. You get cotton mouth pretty bag, and the juices help.

5)Magazines - Come on guys, we are talking about soldiers. Car magazines, Golf Magazines, and the 3 holy grails, Maxim, Stuff, and FHM. You knew that was coming.

6)Personall hygine items - Toothpaste, toothbrushes - deoderant. Believe me, deoderant helps.

7)Phone cards - Something like the at&t phone cards. This will allow the soldier to use the At&t phone centers located at some of the camp's to call home and talk to their loved ones.

8)Beef Jerkey - Great source of Carbs and energy, and normally tastes pretty good too. LOL
