Annika Carrying Two Pitching Wedges

Very Interesting!

Apparently Annika was carrying two pitching wedges at the U.S. Open as per:

She is carrying 4-PW in the X-18's and a 48* Cally Forged+ which although listed as a gap wedge is in fact a pitching wedge loft.

Does anyone know whether her 48* wedge is actually bent a few degrees weak?

Anni has always done this, going back many years, before her current set of irons. I don't know if her 48 is bent a little weak; it might be. But the main thing is that her irons are strong (46-degree PW), so that her regular-set PW is closer to a 9-iron in a classic set based on a 48 or a 50-degree wedge. And so the 48 serves her as a kind of gap wedge, and perhaps just a little different sole grind for a critical distance club.

Could be 45. I think some of her older sets were that strong. I had thought she was playing a mostly-sstandard set of X-18's now, and those lofts are listed as a 46-degree PW. It would not surprise me one bit if it was in truth a 45 or 44 degree PW.

And, in that sense, Anni is playing with a pretty standard set. Her 4i thru PW is like 3i thru 9i in traditional lofts -- and with a 48 degree pitching wedge. Call it club inflation...
