Longest driver per dollar $$$ ?

DTM, OEM, new, classic, or otherwise I'm curious, In your opinion which driver head, has the best cost to distance ratio for yourself and or overall right now?

The original Stealth Plus can be had for pretty cheap and is the longest driver I’ve ever hit if you can keep the face attached.

Honestly, any Cobra thats no the most recent version.  Their clubs just don't hold the resale value compared to most other major OEMs but their science is just as good if not better.  Just bought a brand new Aerojet LS off eBay for $160 and its just as long as anything I've hit with just the stock shaft.

 

So I mean I paid $160 for it, hit it on avg 275, thats $0.58 a yard.  For the Darkspeed to be comparable (or any current version driver), I'd have to hit it about 900 yards to get an equal yards/dollar, and that just wouldn't fit my gaps...

@JAMH03 you may want to refine the criteria if you want meaningful feedback.
 

Example, around a decade ago I bought a used Cleveland Launcher 400 at Golf Galaxy for $2. Insane distance per dollar ratio, but did it ever make it in my bag? Nope.

 

I think what you may be looking for is best perceived value from a distance to cost perspective which will be highly subjective and player dependent. Ultimately the answer to any “what is the best <insert club here>” question is to go get fit.

Distance per dollar, what a metric! Can almost see that on a graph. Yards on the X axis, $ on the Y axis. Be a pretty weird looking scatter plot (and, for accuracy, I'd plot the new OEM dots in red, and the eBay dots in blue - just sayin').

Don’t sleep on a used Mizuno driver from the last 2-4 years. I picked up a ST200G head for $99 this past winter and get great ball speeds off of it relative to my Ping driver.

I'm sure you could find some random driver at a thrift store and hit it just as far as any current driver, just a lot less forgiving.  My favorite driver of all time was my Taylor Made System 2 with a flex twist shaft, back in the 90s.  Hit it just as far as my current OG Stealth, just don't need to center strike everything with the Stealth.  I was definitely a better, more consistent, ball striker back in high school.  I think these giant drivers have probably hurt ball striking more than anything.

I would not use one but from a pure distance to dollars perspective... there are several on Amazon you can buy the latest model brand new for around $170.... and you will get about three fourths or better of the distance at less than one third of the price. Or as others have said look for any decent used driver for the best bang for the buck. Something two generations or more old will still have plenty of kick, even compared to the new stuff.

 

Caveat: They are going to be cheaply built and may develop problems early on... but then we are only talking cost to distance right?

I don't hit my new ST-X 230 any longer than my old Cleveland Classic Custom XL, which was more than 10 years old. Those can be found for like $50-80 online. The big advantage that I see is forgiveness across the face. Drivers have been more or less equally hot for a long time. Assuming you can hit the sweetspot!

Agree with this.  Stealth+ is the insanely long, just can be a bit wild.  I've had no durability issues personally.

If you can find an OG M2 head in decent condition, those are as long as anything out there as well.

You can get a used PXG gen 4 driver for around $100. Thats pretty new for quite cheap.

 

I personally stumbled across a brand new Srixon ZX7 for $117.00 last year. Throw in a used tensei off ebay and for under $200 I have a really nice setup that keeps up with or exceeds anything else I’ve tried.
