My limited review and experience
My father and I finally made it to our long awaited trip to Rocky Gap yesterday. The plan was to stay two nights and get in two rounds of golf. I used to camp at Rocky Gap State PArk as a little kid and have been eager to play the golf course since I pass it every time I travel to my wife's hometown in Wester PA to visit the in-laws.So we arrived yesterday for our 10:36 tee time. My first impression of seeing the resort up close is that it is flat out beautiful. Set right on the lake. Just an overall relaxing atmosphere. Here is the unfortunate part. I didn't get to see the inside of the lodge at all and I'll explain why. We weren't scheduled to check in until 3 pm which is pretty much standard everywhere. We check in a t the pro shop. Staff was very friendly. Head off to the practice area to put for a little while as were had an hour to burn before teeing off. Then we head to the the range to hit a couple balls to warm up. The starter tells us we can head out a little early so we onyl have about 10 minutes to warm up. My third swing on the range and I tweak my back a little. It just feels like the typical muscle pull although I do have a history of back problems (L4-L5) disc herniation. Off we go to the first tee and the back is still bothering me so I knwo I need to take it easy and slow things down. I hit the ball beautifully, but unfortunately the back really effected me when I needed to finesse anything. We got through five holes. On the six hole, a par 229 yard par three down hill, I hit a beautiful 4 iron (it was really downhill. I hit my irons above average length but not that far)15 feet past the pin. I get out of the cart and walk over to the greaan and excruciating pain starts to shoot straight down my right leg. Big time sciatica. I almost couldn't walk back to the cart. I tell my dad I am done. We head back in and unfortunately my trip was over before we could even check-in. So here is the review that I can offer based on playing half of the front 9 and seeing all of the front 9.

The course is beautiful and in great condition. A real gem and a nice challenge. Definite premium on keeping the ball in play. The greens were superb and fast just the way I like them. I can't wait to go back when I am healed up. Probably make a trip back in the spring.

Here is the biggest reason why I'll definitely go back. The pro shop was extremely understanding about my injury and did not charge us a red cent. The lodge did not charge us a red cent for having to cancel our reservation. Customer service at it's best in my opinion. I'll definitely go back and plan on trying to gather up some more players to head out with us next time.

So here is my little advertisement for them. The lodge and course is located just outside the quaint little town of Cumberland. It's not too far of a drive away from Musket Ridge Golf course (an hour maybe) which a nice track. Definite compromise getaway for the wife/girlfriend as they have plenty of outdoor things to do. A nice little beach swimming area on the lake. A spa. Obviously a restaurant. Canoeingand biking. Plenty of trails to hike.

Bottom line, based on my very limited experience, I'd highly recommend it.

I did take some pictures on the holes I played. I'll try to attach them later.
