SO Much For New Technology...Game Improvement!

Out sunday afternoon playing a quick 9 hole with a coupel of friends. On 8, we had no one behind us for miles, so I decided to tee off on the 530 yard par five with my 9.0 Cobra SZ460 R Flex graphite shaft driver. I hit a 252 yard drive, dead center of the fairway. I then grabbed my buddy;s old Taylor Made Burner 3 Wood with Stiff steel shaft out fo curiosity. I proceeded to hit a 243 yard drive dead center of the fairway!!!

Surprise the hell out of me, Firstly because it was his 15 degree 3 wood compared to my driver, secondly it was his much heavier, steel stiff shafted driver.....I just dotn know what to make of that!

I see your point.

I bought some 962s 6 months ago and they are the best irons I've ever played and that includes-

DCI Black

981

MP33

TA2

Eye 2

Eye2+

i3

300 Forged

MX23

And others I'm probably forgetting

One of the best amateur players I know still has Titleist blades circa-1985.

I know another guy that plays a full bag of component clubs (considered inferior by some) and he's a +1.

Personally, I don't believe technology moves as fast we line up to pay for it.

I have been set up on launch monitor, however not with this driver. To note the covbra sz460 stock shatf is a soft tip, high launch shaft. When I bought it, oenb of the guys at the store suggested if I was going from a steel 10.5 degree drive and had a high ball flight, which I do, I go down to the 9.0 degree, as this driver would create a ball flight similar to my older driver without ballooning. I typically hit my driver around 230.....so I am not a long hitter....I just happened to uncork to longer drives,....but was surprised at the distance off his 3 wood.

Usually there is not much difference between clubs that are 10-15 years apart when they are hit in the middle and have a pure contact. The proof that newer clubs are generally better comes when you compare the mishits. Also, newer clubs are easier to hit because they are better balanced which makes the club easier to swing on plane/path.

humm.... i love my 904f 15D fairway wood with steel shaft - R flex and would tee-off as needed. and the distance i get from it is about the same as my old 983K-10.5D-R flex. my swing speed is slow = 80-90.

i did demoed on launch monitor with several drivers and with different specs this past february - and my best outcome was with the 905T-10.5D-R Flex.

on the course, I can get a bit more distance (10-20 yds) pretty consistent - but more importantly for me - a bit more forgiveness on missed hits (as mentioned). i think the 905T is 400cc versus 983K 365cc.

so the 904f is still in the bag.
