How to take good pics

I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum so please move if needed.

I am wanting to post some items for sale in the BST forum and would really like to know how to take a great picture. I see stuff listed for sale or WITB with great looking pictures and cant seem to get mine to trun out very well. Did a search and come up empty. Are there any threads where this is dicussed.

The best pictures are going to be taken outdoors and for close ups use the macro setting on your camera.

Please do your best to avoid having random background items ie nasty feet, trash, and bathrooms in the backgroud if you take them indoors

Outdoors on sunny day in the shade or, better yet, outdoors on overcast day. No flash.

best shots are taken indoors with natural light or with bounce flash. Normally having some type of plain background is good.

Oh, it doesn't hurt to shoot with a dslr either.

Attempt to use manual settings with a longer exposure time (but not so long as to blow out the photo with over-exposure). Macro settings are always a plus, and if possible position the photos so the camera is in between the light source and the subject. Do not use flash if you can get by without it (by lengthening exposure time for example) for this can cause wash out.
