Vokey's Vs. Ping Tour

Any Thoughts?

I just upgraded from Hogan Apex Plus irons to the Ping S56's. Now need the weather to get better. Sucks living in the northeast. Any way, I am currently playing the Vokey Spin Milled wedges. I was thinking about getting the Ping Tour wedges to match my set. I don't have any experience with Ping wedges. Any thoughts?

i switched from vokey's (6 seasons w/vokeys and 13 years with titleist equipment) to ping tour w's at the end of this year and don't see myself going back. feel is great (especially if you like the solid feel of the s56 irons), they're just as versatile and spin just as well. i demo'd ping's newest irons/wedges at the end of the season and am trying to resist re-tooling my bag for 2011.

I play 52* & 56* tour s prior to them i was using the W's i like the feel they are solid have a nice bite and blend with my I 15's before that i played vokey's and wont be going back, i would more likely go to clevelands before i would go back to vokey's , now let the vokey purists start.

Ok, I've played Vokey SM's for a few years, before that pretty much anything I could find cheap. Very happy with my 54/14 and my 58/8, but I recently borrowed a Ping Tour-w 56, then played a CG14 54* 2-dot for a round. the Ping felt like it had more sole weight, but that may have been the shaft. Certainly got the ball up very quickly out of sand when I needed it. But.... I like the CG14 better. It feels a tad lighter, and I love the distance control and the workability on the 14. I just ordered a couple of CG14's for myself before they disappear. No purism here.... I just wanna get the ball into the hole!

I also switched from vokeys to ping tour w wedges. I played vokeys for a few years and thought they were the only wedge i would like. My grooves were really worn out and i got a great deal on some tour w wedges so i thought i would give them a try. I am glad i did. The feel isnt too different but the results are much better. If a wedge can be more forgiving that is how i would think of the tour w. I played two rounds with them and have killed it from 110 in. They just want to go straight instead of my normal draw. Definitley play easier for me out of the sand. They are the same bounce as my old wedges so it must be the sole/toe weight i like.

I think once you understand your style of chipping/pitching then the vokeys may be better for you. My experiences with the Ping Tour and Tour-W (not Tour-S; the newest wedge) are that they play decent on a variety of conditions and a variety of shots. The Vokeys are more specialized to the player in a way thats scratch-like. I need more bounce in all wedges and I found that at least %75 of what vokey offered caused me more bad than good (great sole design but not enough effective bounce). Wedge play is the best part of my game any Ping model I have played just made me feel like I didnt need to practice as much and the naturally seemed to match my techniques. Vokeys always forced me to change the setup and get out of my routine. I like the Tour-W the best. The new Tour-S looks like the sole is a bit thinner and that may help on firm courses/tight lies etc. I just got brand new S57 and its going to be hard to not play Tour W for all my wedges so Im in kinda the same boat as the OP. If you do good with the vokeys then you will definately like the Tour S wedges IMO.
