Jack Nicklaus MacGregor Tourney Sleeve Of Balls

Any Info On These Would Be Great

Don't know much about this sleeve of balls except that it has Jack's name on them...I understand these came from the 1979 Masters...Has anybody seen an item like this before? Thanks for your help...

I have 2 sleeves still in shrink wrap of MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Tournament I pulled from my dad's bag when he was getting rid of things he no longer used. Although there is no date on the packaging, not sure how old they are. My dad gave up playing in the late 60's.

eBay currently has a sleeve similar to yours but it is Surlyn 90 and no description. There is another eBay auction for MacGregor Tourney with the same font as yours. This one says 1968 and the packaging is lablelled MacGregor with the Golden Bear logo and "A Jack Nicklaus Company" below the MacGregor.

Man, it's been a long time since I've seen some of those...

 

They seriously went "squish" when you'd hit 'em...and they used to wobble all over the place while in flight...:D. I can remember trying to hit a draw and they would start going just a little left and then all of a sudden they would dive to the right...they were a mess.

 

Their popularity really gained some ground around the time of the Maxfli Blue Max, the Titleist DT and the Wilson ProStaff, I think. I don't remember seeing any with the Nicklaus name on the side, though...there was a 90 compression that had the Tourney in blue and the 100 compression that was in Black, like these.

Someone once mentioned that Jack won all of those majors, in spite of having to play Tourney golf balls. They did not have a great rep vs. balata Titleist. Maybe not even better than a "Club Special", the poor man's Titleist also made by Acushnet.
