Its really funny how many people sell stuff saying its Adams Tour Issue, Basically all that means is they have a Adams pro account and are ordering the heads only and then passing them off as Tour Issue on Ebay or where ever. So if you buy a so Called "Tour Issue" Adams head its just sent from the factory to the account as head only. Only time I would believe it is truly a tour head is when it is something that is not available retail.

My understanding is that Adams does not use tour issue serial numbers like Taylormade. If its listed as tour issue; then I hope you buy it from a reputable seller of tour issue items.

That is kind of what I figured. I know when TM first took over Adams, they released the Speedline Tech driver and tour issue had the T serial number like TM. Figured they would keep with that system, but it doesn't really look like they have been.

Ha, it will be truer to stated loft and probably launch lower than the average eBay'er is expecting.

I actually just order an Adams driver XTD head from a club maker with an Adams account. The tour issue head, just like any other OEM, has been checked to make sure it is closer to spec than the retail head. The only other difference he said is that the head is heavier. This makes it easier to build the club and get the swing weight where most pros or low handicappers want it. The tour issue head is about $70 more, so you are basically paying to make sure that your 9 degree head is close to 9 degrees, lie angle is spot on, and you don't get a light head. Nothing magical here, just paying for them to sort through all the heads and find the ones closest to spec.

The irony is that a customer would be paying them to receive a head that is actually spec'd as advertised. I always thought that was kind of disingenuous.

I agree kind of ridiculous, but I guess the tolerances for a mass produced item in China can only be so good. That's part of the reason why Japanese clubs cost more.

Are the tolerances tighter for JDM? Didn't know that. Anyway, I think I read somewhere that (at one point) the tightest tolerances for any domestic, commercially available line of golf clubs was Golfsmith's Snake Eyes component line. If true, I find that hilarious.

(and it isn't a knock on SE either)

Oh yes, the JDM gear is fairly exact. My Epon iron heads were sent with a sticker that showed the spec weight for each head, and then the exact weight of each head to the tenth of a gram. Driver head face angles are within 3/10ths of a degree while US heads can be within 1 1/2 degrees. Obviously that degree of accuracy requires more cost to manufacture, which is part of the reason it costs more. If you look at the Adams XTD driver, they are emulating the Japanese build process, which is how they can get these heads so close to the max COR without exceeding it.
