i-506 users - looking for collective wisdom

There have been a number of threads concerning the Srixon i-506 irons - but I wanted to start a new one to gather and share our collective knowledge. A couple of thoughts off the bat:

I have definitely decided that the standard lofts are too flat for me. Came back after using my J33 Combos out of town for the weekend and played with the 506's last night. The Srixies are longer and have a stronger ballflight - but everything flushed was 10 yds right, and I started having to compensate for it. The j33's spec 1.5* upright from the standard Srixon lies and I hit them dead straight to a 1-3 yard draw; I feel pretty strongly that I will need to go 1.5* up. Anyone else noticed this about the standard lies?

Second - I am finding DG S300 to be a really nice match for this head, as the head launches so high, but the DG keeps it down somewhat. I can't get over the strength of the ballflight - doesn't really climb so much as gets up and seems to stay high but flat. But I would like to hear about people's experiences with other shafts in these heads.

I look forward to your input about these irons.

Cheers.

The blade length is excessive, the sole is a little wide and the short irons look big at address. There is a little more offset than I'd like. The top line is genuinely thin and just looks great. There is definitely some off center help built into the heads, but they aren't pure game improvement clubs. They aren't just for the low handicapper either. Middle handicappers will love the shotmaking capabilities of the 506s. I got PX 5.5s in mine and had them soft stepped once, but they are still a little on the stiff side in terms of feel. The shafts let me go after it and really power the head through the shot. The PXs respond well to aggression. This is one set of irons that I can stretch when I'm between clubs. I can stand on a trap with the shorter iron and the reduced spin keeps the ball from going too far left; I get a soft draw and a few extra yards. That draw is handy when conditions favor that kind of shot shape. The stiffness in the shaft tips makes fading the ball a little more difficult and the soft stepping is a remedy to get a little extra head feel for cut shots. I can't play for three weeks and I just got them back so time will tell if the soft stepping will be effective. The ball flight is initially high but flattens out quickly.

I have two playing partners who have hit mine and love them. One switched from 704/DG S300 to 506/PX 5.5 and immediately gained some distance and tightened up his dispersion. My other buddy is playing my set and shot his best round at the Circle C in Austin in two years. If not for an off putting day, he would have been in the mid to low seventies which is not too shabby for a ten handicap. The shaft upgrades with no upcharge is a rare deal. My retailer told me Thursday that the I-506s are set for a price increase August 1st. As for the lie angles, I'm still working that out. I have two sets, one standard and one bent two degrees flat. I normally play black in the Ping system. I do think the leading edge of the Srixons digs more than the J33 Combos so getting the lie angles and your ball position refined is crucial to making these irons work their best.

Yeah the leading edge is a bit sharp - I should probably have the 506's at my summer course (a firm links) and the J33's at my home course (which is peaty and often boggish).

Mostly though I find that I flash the 506's just a bit when coming back from the J33's - probably lie angles (couldn;t be my swing . . . )

Like to try them in PX.
