Coming to MN in August. Need some great courses to play

Any ideas? price is not an issue. Looking for the best MN has to offer.

Would love to play Hazeltine.. Not sure if will be open by then.. Dont know a member

Public only I'm assuming. Edinburgh USA is pretty nice, the legend and the quarry are very nice courses as well, need a little more info to give some more recomendatioins

I want to play the best MN has to offer within 2-3 hours of st paul.

I play to a 7 from the tips.

The Classic at Madden's Resort hands down the best course in Minnesota

StoneRidge in Stillwater is great. Troy Burne in Hudson is also one of my favorites as well. THe Quarry at Giants Ridge and The Wilderness at Fortune Bay are great resort courses, pretty good drive though. Dacotah Ridge in Morton is really nice as well.

I believe Hazeltine will be open but definately can't get on without a member. Other great private courses are Interlochen or Windsong Farm, if you happen to know members.

I agree. Stone Ridge and Troy Burne aren't far, easy to get on, and rival any private club. Also, it's a little muni, but check out Keller just because of it's history.

Hmmm, Not so sure we have too many GREAT courses, but we do have quite a few REALLY GOOD.
Troy Burne, although Wisconsin, is the top of my list, and Stoneridge makes an awesome 36 hole day. I was surprised to see that both Chaska Towne adn Willingers didnt get mention? They are must plays when I have friends in town. Then the whole Brainerd area with Deacons, Classic at Maddens, The preserve and Legacy courses are a really fun weekend. Further out, The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is a fantastic layouy, and Giants Ridge and The Quarry are not to be missed if you want to get em all in .
Theres more, but those are my quick thoughts on Minnesota golf.

you know a member to where? minikahda is pretty nice, I wouldn't say it's great but its really nice. Gotta know a member though, Sommerset,

Surprised of your assessment of Minikahda. IMO, one of the great classic courses anywhere, and with a ton of history. Not long like the newer great courses, but I love the classics. Minikahda, Somerset, Woodhill, White Bear Yacht Club, Minneapolis GC, the Twin Cities are rich with great Classic Clubs...

Don't get me wrong, minikahda is a great classic course, its just nothing compared to the likes of hazeltine, minikahda is fairly short and if you play well you can go really low.

New vs. Old :-)

The original members of Hazeltine actually came from Minikahda. Totten Peavey Heffelfinger, former president of the USGA, wanted to build a facility in Minnesota to hold major championships for years to come. He realized he needed a really BIG course for future generations. Smart dude! I caddied for him several times in the early 70's. One of the men I remember as bigger than life, and very scary!

Yes, quite a few members of hazeltine also hold minikahda memberships as well. New vs. old. But minikahda is pretty darn nice for old, never gpnna host another tournament I don't think, maybe qualifying for a womens am or something like that.
