Ping Under 4 bag

Recommended Posts

How do they hold up?
My Ping Hoofer bag is getting old and I'm thinking about getting the Under 4 Ping bag and wanted to know how they hold up over time. I looked at one at a local golf shop and I noticed the material in the bag is not as heavy as the Hoofer bag. Anyway, any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I have had mine for about a year now. I walk a lot, ride sometimes. It has held up fine. I suggest not getting the all white one, if they still sell it. It will get a little dirty. Overall, it is an awesome bag, it has space for a windbreaker, balls, gloves, and your valuables pocket, which is basically all you need. It is REALLY light and REALLY comfy. If you pick up your friends standard carry bag after a round, you will think it is about twice as heavy. My only complaint is that it is sometimes hard to put clubs in since the bag is a little smaller, and the grips can get stuck on each other, so you have to jiggle it around to get the clubs to settle in. Otherwise, it is the best walker bag, IMO.

Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to find a bag that will replace my really old reliable Ping L8 single strap bag with no stand attachment. I've tried a Ping Hoofer Vantage for one season and it was like carrying bricks compared to the L8. But the L8 is starting to wear to the point that I can't keep using it. I got bored this week with all the snow and ice in Dallas and weighed all the stuff I carry in the L8 and it only weighed 15 lbs. The same stuff in the Hoofer bag weighed 20lbs. So if the Under 4 bag is a compromise between them I'll look into it a little more. I just wish I could get a new L8 bag from Ping.

Had one for a year now, it has held up just fine, the only problem is that the retractable strap system does not always retract, which is no problem since they just stay the same length as a normal strap. Also I got the original red and white version, if I had to do it again I would get a solid color, the white just looks dirty all the time.

Great bag overall, light simple, stylish, good product.

You should be happy with your purchase. I used to have a Hoofer Vantage and it was about 1.5 lbs heavier than the 4 Under. I was skeptical that the wight difference would make a difference but it definately does. I've had mine for a year and like everyone says, it's still holding up nicely. The only issue is the grip tangle. I actually purchased 6 of those black plastic divider tubes to put in the center 2 dividers. I used electrical tape to bundle them in 3's and cut them down so they sit below the top of the bag. It's really improved the grip tangle and since my middle 2 dividers are steel shafted irons, they won't wear like graphite. I've heard that the plastic can be bad for your grips, but so is jamming them in and out. Enjoy your bag.

Update, mine ripped along the seam on the large apparel pocket, I think the white material is definitely defective. Will be taking it back this week, probably go with the same bag but NOT with white. (I am sick of white golf products anyway.)

Ive had 2 in the last year! The first one (Blue gray) the material ripped all to peices the handle ripped completely off of it! I took it back they gave me a new one same color and the retractable strap quit working! I now have it sitting in the corner for decoration AS THEY ARE JUNK IMO and I bought the new 2011 cleveland stand bag and I absolutly love it!

I don't think the new PING bags are as good as the old ones. Don't seem to hold up as well. I have a couple of the Hoofer 3s and will be hanging onto them as long as possible.

Just like most things, they don't make em like they used to. I had an original Hoofer for over 10 years. Got a new one because the black was starting to fade and I was tired of the grip tangle due to no full-length dividers. Well, the ones still have the grip tangle.

My wife has one of the first Nike stand bags: the ones the say Nike Golf on the side w/ the 2 clubs criss-cossed. I think it has a 4-way top divider: 2 big ones on the ends and the middle one split in 2. It doesn't just have pieces of fabric running down the inside, but rather the middle dividers is almost encased with the fabric to sepereate from the other dividers. Almost like a bag within a bag.

I guess my point is newer isn't always better. It's a shame too, because I really like Ping bags and the new ones look awesome.
