UST V2... feel but a bit more tip stiff and more kick

I hit a UST v2 65g stiff in a tour FT-3 head at Golf Galaxy. This club wasn't as long as a regular 9.5 SQ, but I was hitting it on the centerline consistently. What I need is slightly higher launch with quite a bit less spin. The numbers were about 10-11* launch with probably an average of 3600 spin. I liked the feel of the V2, but the numbers just weren't there. My SS averaged about 99 in that monitor but I can be between 93-108. I also hit a Bassara s-flex in the stock 10* head...didn't really like that combo because of the closed face. Spin was higher (3800ish) and the shaft felt a bit soft to me. I don't quite remember the launch angle using that shaft...sorry.

I would be playing the club to 46.5" length, so do you think I might benefit from an X flex? Also, in terms of shafts, what should I be looking at the get the launch angle slightly higher (1* or so) and spin slightly lower (400rpm or so) than the V2 based on the numbers I have stated.

That's a huge swing speed range. If you're closer to the 93, then an R would work well for you. If your closer to the 108, then a S would work well for you.

 

The 9.5* SQ regular is probably longer for you because you are loading & unloading the shaft properly. That's the key to maximizing distance and accuracy.

 

If your averaging 99mph, a stiff would be more than enough.. maybe even a regular tipped a little bit to allow you to load & unload the shaft properly... although I'll leave the custom fitting to someone like Joe Kwok.

 

IHMGO, stay away from an X flex. From you what said, it sounds like it would be way too stiff for you and you'll probably hit weak fades all day long that will rob you of distance... but the shaft will feel terrible.

 

Did they have an Opti-fit cart system?? Reason I ask is that the NVS 65 stiff or VS Proto 60 might work well for you...
