Guys Trip to AZ

Any suggestions for a guys trip to AZ in the fall? Stay at one resort (suggestions)? Stay in Scottsdale area? Worth a day trip to Tuscon? All desert courses or mix in some more traditional courses? Any random thoughts are appreciated!

If your coming out in the fall be carefull of the overseeding schedules. Mid Sept through Oct is usually pretty spotty.

IMO, I would almost suggest a day trip up to the Prescott or Sedona area for a golf trip rather than Tucson. Cooler(perfect) temps, and a bit more of a different style of golf than you'll get from a scottsdale/tucson golf trip. If you've got a good group of guys who don't mind tieing one on, then Prescott can be a hell of a time on Whiskey Row! One_Putt, Deemo, and myself can speak from experience haha.

As OnePutt mentioned, very important to be aware of the overseed. You should be ok thru the end of September. Most places start by the second week of October. I really wouldn't recommend a trip to Phoenix for golf between mid-October and early/mid December.

200+ courses in the greater Phoenix area, no real need to drive to Tucson.

The traditional layouts in Phoenix are few and not particularly noteworthy. If you are visiting the desert, you should check out the best the desert has to offer. Why travel to Phoenix just to play a course that looks like home?

Thanks for the replies. I've definitely been scanning the pinned topic for reviews in the area. This crew would definitely like the sound of Whiskey Row as well! Recent trips have included Florida, Northern Michigan and Pinehurst, so this will definitely be something different. It is a long way out, but it is never too early to start thinking about it!

Scottsdale area.. yes!.... Hit up GOLFNOW.COM for steals!!!! Always great rates the day of or one day prior....

Lots of good golf within 40 minutes MAX!!!

Used to live there.. We try to go back once a year.... Miss it!!! Too much fun and lots of great "watering holes"

Thanks, Ladahl! I book just about all of my tee times locally on golfnow or another website. I just can't pay rack rate anymore!

It's crazy not to.... I've played side-by-side with people staying at the Marriot Camelback, and I was paying a third of their green fees.... Have fun! I'm soooo jealous!

Tucson doesn't have really any "special" courses that demand a full 2 hour trip each way. there are plenty of nice courses in the phx area.
