Handicap ?

I have really gotten into golf over the past 2 yrs and have made some good progress. I was wondering if I should get a handicap and if so, how to go about that? I regularly play several different local courses and even some non-local courses. I shoot in the low 90s/High 80s. Should I get a handicap and if so, how do I go about that? The whol ehandicap thing is confusing to me. Thanks guys!

Handicaps are the best way to track your progress in the game. Go to GHIN.COM You can find the nearest participating club to sign up to get a USGA handicap.

Do you have to go through a club? I don't belong to a clubl. I am just your avg weekend golfer, I Play a vairety of courses, but I'd like to start tracking my game. We may take a mulligan on each 9 etc. We play for fun first and foremost but try to improve second. Is a handicap something I should get? When I read about it, it sounds soo official and intimidating? I;m just confused.

Depends what you want from golf. If you just want to track your game, there is plenty of free software available out there. If you want to play in handicapped tournaments, you need a handicap.

If you're taking mulligan's, playing the ball up, etc., I wouldn't suggest an handicap as you'll be hindered in handicapped events.

I don't have an officail handicap but I keep my scores at golfonline.com. I just use the free service. I have about 70 rounds in it and you can access all of your rounds.

I use yahoo golf handicap tracker which is a free service and uses the same formula as the usga for determining handicap. I don't play in tournaments but I like keeping track of my handicap for a variety of reasons including playing against friends and tracking my improvement.

I use digitaldivot.com to track my scores, # of putts etc and handicap. It is free and provides some good information. You can also modify courses so if there slope/rating changes you can adjust it when you enter your score.

Check out topflite.com and launch the interactive score tracker. Its a good free service to see what your handicap probably is.

I go through the golf association of michigan for mine. But I also use golfq.com which keeps track of fairways hit, gir, putts, sand saves, up and downs, penalties.. All of this info is compiled into a percentage to show you where you need to work on. It is a great site that I highly recommend and it is free.....

Same for me...great site and I like the layout.

I only keep a handicap so I can keep up with my game. I only have a few rounds entered so it will take some time to see my trends and improvements.

Not necessarily. Do you want to play for a few bucks with your buddies? A valid handicap would eliminate a LOT of arguments.

But you never know when you might NEED a valid handicap to play so something you're invited to.

digitaldivot is the shizzle...

LOL though, i entered 7 rounds worth of cards i had in my bag, some of them from a few months ago, some from the last 2 weeks... my handicap is 26.9... :) i guess they are only using 2 of the 7 scores i put in though...

no worries though, i'll be working that down...

my putting is awful as i'm averaging 37.5 ppr...
